Apple today released watchOS 4.2.2, a minor update to the watchOS operating system that runs on the Apple Watch. watchOS 4.2.2 comes over a month after the release of watchOS 4.2, an update that introduced Apple Pay Cash.

watchOS 4.2.2 can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General --> Software Update. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it needs to be placed on a charger, and it needs to be in range of the iPhone.

During the beta testing period, no major outward-facing changes were discovered in watchOS 4.2.2. According to Apple's release notes, the update "includes improvements and bug fixes." No other details are available.

For more on the watchOS 4 operating system, make sure to check out our dedicated watchOS 4 roundup.

Watch updates take forever to install.

Agreed , I hate any updates on my watch, but there is no solution to that .
I was hoping the watch 3 was going to be faster than the original one with the updates
Same story:(

My watch is still having intermittent problems transferring music from my phone. With each update I hope that it “just works” like Apple products once did, but no. Reset watch. Reset phone. Open phone watch app, restart phone watch app. Maybe at some point it will start transferring. Sometimes it never transfers. Ugh.

And Apple still hasn't fixed the Series 3 Apple Watch Siri commands not working properly with HomeKit lighting. She won't stop TALKING BACK TO YOU, even with her set to SILENT.

And some other times it will not COMPLETE the transfer, leaving inconsistent results across iOS reports (not enough storage) and watch reports (still have space). Right now I still have no idea how to properly start a transfer.

Ha, wow, I've not seen that happen yet, but I admit I don't look at the amount of space left as I have only been able to sync maybe 15 songs on the watch, and expect there to be sufficient space left.

I even thought I would stop updating the phone and watch once I had a stable syncing version, but that doesn't help either, they just eventually stop syncing.

Yesterday I had tried to sync about 10 songs before my 10 mile run, wasted 45 minutes trying to trouble shoot, and ended up running with my phone in my hand because they simply wouldn't transfer. Totally defeats the purpose of having the watch (for me).

Guess I should erase/repair my watch AGAIN to make it work? BS! Such a long process. Even restarting my watch takes a long time (series 2). Thankfully my iPhone X reboots in seconds now, which takes a little of the pain out of it.

Thanks the reply, Shirasaki. Misery loves company!

No worries.

I have managed to sync 200 Hi-Res or CD quality songs to my watch. Main purpose is to test its limits. After struggle, one way to somehow start a sync is to delete everything I want to sync, then add everything I want to sync to restart. Easily takes 2-3 hours if not longer for each round. Apple Watch series 3 seems to have no restrictions on either synced songs count or storage limits like series 2 or before does. One thing I do need to keep in mind though is to ensure iPhone is connected to WiFi or it will transfer through BT, taking I guess 8-10 hours for the same task. Ugh. :(

My Apple Watch Series 3 was an amazing device for about 3 months until it began to slow down. I haven't even installed new apps since the first week so I can't understanding why the performance degrade? It's unresponsive at times, Siri takes longer to launch, and sometimes Homekit fails to turn off all the lights. Are these updates to blame?

Watch updates take forever to install.

In Apple Watch S4 Apple needs to create a brand new ASICS chipset that allows for Bluetooth 5, faster 802.11 AC (if not already in S3) and faster installation for WatchOS. Right now it seems that the iPhone downloads the package and then feeds it over Bluetooth to the Watch then installation begins. Why not use the iPhone as a conduit for management ... have the Watch download and install it - if storage allows for it. I still have 4GB free space on my (second owned) Nike+ S2.

Oooo your S3 is only now "beginning to slow down"?

Try those of us that have the Nike+ S2 that after WatchOS 3.2.3 deployed on July 19TH began to discover hiccups in Blueooth Headset connectivity reliability. Then even worse, with WatchOS 4 deployed on September 19TH 2017 (Less than 30 days before WatchOS 4.0.1 for S3) that performance CRAWLED to a baby's pace!!

S2 device performance since WatchOS 4:
Silent Mode
Storage Available: 3.6GB
Songs: 45
Photos: 13
Applications: 17
Handoff Enabled
Nightstand Mode Enabled
Workout Power Saving Mode Disabled (using my Jabra Sport Pulse auto switches internal heart rate sensor to these headphones).
* I never take my watch to the gym with 40% or lower battery life.

Music:
Heavy Rotation - Disabled
3 Playlists

Apps in Dock:
Strong
Music
Now Playing
Timer
Messages

Whenever I'm at the gym (not always is the gym's WiFi working, staff screwing around) I have 1 of my playlists playing during my weight training workout, Jabra Sport Pulse is what I'm listening to my playlist on as well as it's heart rate monitor, and the Strong work out application. All are up to date.

IF I switch from my Strong workout to my playlist to switch a track more than the direct Next/Previous or to switch my playlist ... 8 second delay. Switching back to my Strong workout app ... 10 second delay. Worse is it seems like my watch freezes no ivsual feedback on weather or not an action is being processed during those delays. Music keeps playing.

I don't know if this is related to the iPhone 7 I have because it has it's own annoyance since I bought it summer 2017.
iPhone 7 + Jabra Sport Pulse / + Nike+ S2 : Both on silent (or just the iPhone on days I leave the watch at home) ... while listening to music there is a half second pause here and there ... seemingly randomly.
No iMessage/SMS/MMS
No Email (sometimes)
No Instagram alert/message/update on feed
I don't have a FB account not signed in from before I killed it.
I don't use SnapChat
BBM is pretty much bunk - 1 contact left and she's off completely; guess I should kill this.
So why is there seemingly an alert that is interrupting my music if it's not the headphones built in audio (I don't use the fitness coach app imbedded in the headset), Watch and iPhone are in Silent and the VIPs are not messaging or calling me so this is a COMPLETE Annnoying Mystery to me. Arrrgh.

I miss the days of 3.2 on my S2 AW.

Luckily i’m on it, but i was thinking of updating....

DONT DO IT!!

One way ticket to slow down city.

Indeed!

Currently I'm downloading this latest update. I've already checked for an update via my Jabra PC app over USB ... no update there.

PS: I still have this pause in music playback when using my Beats Studio3's.

Let me know if it's good and it doesnt make my watch hang for 10 seconds trying to use the dock or start a workout!

For the watch, is it like the iPhone? You can usually do 2 years of iOS updates but anything past that can REALLY slow down the phone - same for the watch? I just got my AW3 GPS less than 3 months ago. Went to go update after I read this but the comments ... hmmm.

Whatever, I'll update. Been pretty happy with the AW3 GPS.

Shame all these replies and not one pertaining to what is new/fixed

These updates not "pertaining to today's fix" IS actually pertaining to it. Like I've personally stated 3 updates and the issue still persist.

But to make YOU happy and others ...
iPhone 7 256GB Matte Black currently being installation iOS 11.2.5
WatchOS Nike+ S2 just updated and off charger (full charge); not this rebooted.
Unlocked Watch
Launched Music that shows my most recently played playlist - butter smooth, no playback done.
Launched Strong ... 6 seconds Just the app name (Top Left hand corner) and time (top right hand corner) = Crash!
auto Watch Home Face
Re-Launched Strong ... 7 seconds (3rd second I see the Strong 'working dumbbell logo spinning') and I now see my apps.
PS: Strong was updated last Friday.

Powered on my Beats Studio3's playing playlist at medium volume (sweet Hip-Hop)
Launched Strong workout ...
Switching back to other playlist listings.
selected another playlist ... half-second response (above normal since September 2017)
Music title scrolling waits about 3seconds then scrolls which I feel is expected and normal across all watch versions.
No lag experienced at all!

Real Test is tomorrow morning when I goto the gym and connect to the Gym's WiFi, out of my iPhones range (most of the workout session) using my Jabra Sport Pulse headphones.

Screenshots to follow momentarily

Note:
Both my Beats Studio3's and Jabra Sport Pulse's are BT Paired to my Phone and my Watch, never at the same time are both headsets connected of course.

PS: I'm at home on WiFi and iPhone successfully updated just as I connected to my Beats Studio3's in the steps above.
[doublepost=1516767229][/doublepost]Pictures updated: what I found odd is the reminder to jump back into the Strong App when the rest countdown timer ends was removed from their last update earlier last week (I updated Friday) and it's back again. Hmmm.

Again ... my real test is tomorrow:

Nike+ S2 Watch and iPhone 7 paired with Jabra Sport Pulse
- all have up to date firmware/software
start listening to music.
outdoor TTC (Toronto public transit commute by bus) to the gym: 40 mins
arrive at gym which has WiFi (I'll double check it's working; valid default gateway and test this site)
Disconnect Jabra Sport Pulse from iPhone 7 (don't want calls to interrupt music)
Play playlist from Nike+ S2 to Jabra Sport Pulse
Launch Strong WatchOS app
workout and track heart rate through Jabra's and strength progress through Nike+ and jump back and forth.
[I do get iMessages through most of the gym due to WiFi connection].

Hoping this all works.
