My cellular plan has "unlimited Data", and as these iOS updates are not horrendously large - I wish we could opt out of the manditory Wi-Fi download requirement.

I completely agree!

I work around it by temporarily tethering my iPhone to my cellular iPad, so it thinks I’m on WiFi. 😂

But there is really no good reason to have to do that.

watchOS 5.3.5

This update includes improvements and bug fixes, including a fix for an issue that prevented the irregular heart rhythm notification from working as expected for Apple Watch owners in Iceland.

So you are saying that I can update iOS on my phone (my only Apple device) using only my mobile data? That's not what I read. Please fill me in.
ummm, where did you get that? I responded that you can opt out of automatic updates on both Apple Watch and iPhone. quotes from the posts: " I wish we could opt out" and "You cannot even opt out when updating your phone". So yah, you can opt out, pretty easily.

Update using only your mobile data? I have never even tried, so while I would assume so, I have no idea. I don't have unlimited on my mobile, so I use wifi for all updates.

oops, my bad. Now I see what you said. Never mind!

Calm down, he wants to 'opt out' of using wifi for updates and use cellular only.

Never mind?? Perhaps an apology for you saying "Do you really know what you are talking about?" is in order?

Still no ECG in MX? I live in TJ and have a S4 SS, I have to cross to San Diego to activate that feature last year, I thought that on S5 will activate in MX

Most likely this isn't an Apple holdup but a clearance issue for countries without it... Apple had to get FDA clearance before releasing the feature. The equivalent in Mexico might be what's causing the delay.

I've been having intermittent rapid battery drain with 6.1.2 -- roughly 10%/hour when it's "acting up."

Restarting the watch seems to help with this, for a few days. I hope it's patched in this bug fix release.

Are you seeing active energy / steps /etc sync delays (more then a few mins) between the watch and the phone? Does it get worse towards the end of the day and/or are you seeing multiple healthd CPU overuse logs under Settings/Privacy/Analytics loosely correlated with it?

watchOS 6.1.3 can be downloaded for free through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General > Software Update.
Or, you know, you can go to Settings -> General -> Software Update directly on the Apple Watch.

I'm still pining for custom watch faces. So exasperating - why can't we have that?
  1. Because the watch face is displayed all the time and if not written perfectly could drain the battery extremely fast.
  2. Because opening a Watch Face Store would lead to a morass of copyright violation watch faces, people copying the IP of other watch makers as well as well as, well, everything else (figures from pop culture, superheroes, sports teams, etc.). They'd probably have to reject 90% of the submissions, but they'd still have to spent time examining all those submissions before rejecting them.
  3. Because the Apple Watch designers (wonder who that is now that Jony Ive is gone) fancy themselves to be the best watch face designers and feel they give you everything you could possibly need. (Basically, they think they know better.)
I'd like to have custom faces too. I don't see it happening any time soon.

Just that bug? Let's hope not. They've got a bucket load to fix.
My S4 keeps getting in a state where I can't swipe down to seen notification or swipe up to see controls.
Only a hard reboot fixes it. Awaiting my 6.1.3 install to complete to see if that one got fixed.

no way I'm updating for this, 6.1.2 has been smooth on my series 4 paired with my XR on 13.3 and battery life is fine after turning off app background refresh and all the active Siri listening features

I approach updates incredibly skeptically, especially when the bug fixes aren't of interest

Good point. My battery life is the best it's ever been, even with all those features enabled.

Updated and had my S4 fully charged at 3:45 pm. It’s now 6 pm and my watch is down to 78%. That’s not good.

Acknowledgement Apple has Icelandic users - wow! Now if only they would give us Apple Music, iTunes Store, Apple TV+, Books, iCloud Music Library, Movie Rentals, iTunes Match and every other feature everyone else seems to have 🤔
Does Iceland get ECG on the S4/S5 watch? Here in New Zealand we're a bit behind on things too although not that bad! Only last month did the Apple watch get cellular support from one of NZ's carriers. No ECG. Can't buy HomePod here even though it is available in Australia with the same plug and voltage.

So.... an update for Bjork?

never underestimate the “Army of me” ;)

Because it's tied into a medical feature, it's very likely due to country-based gating to comply with regulatory requirements.

this isn’t about complying with regulatory restrictions this is about removing something broken

aka “...addressing an issue that could prevent the irregular heart rhythm notification feature from working properly for Apple Watch owners in Iceland.” What you stated doesn’t not apply in this aspect.

And still no ECG/EKG in Australia, c'mon Apple I will NOT buy another Apple Watch until you bring this feature to Australia...

We did get ECG together with other European countries. No LTE watches though. The Homepods for sale here are from the US but without Apple Music enabled, most of it is useless.

You cannot even opt out when updating your phone. You may have an unlimited data plan but Apple needs to "protect" those who don't and may be too dim to manage their data. A true nanny state operation.

And yet it will happily let you download updates on an iPad over cellular if the cellular you use is a tethered iPhone which will chew through your data plan just as quickly... I know the iPad sees tethered as WiFi but it obviously knows that it isn't "proper" WiFi as you get the different symbol in the top bar.

I can understand not automatically downloading updates over cellular, but allowing a manually initiated download - even with a "this will use lots of data" warning and confirmation - would be really useful at times.

The well known bug that impacts on Apple watches paired with iPhone SE (see threads about this) is still present. A real shame. It’s 5 months now. In the absolute Apple’s silence. Face this scenario: this morning I was listening to some music with AirPods (1 gen). I’ve received an iMessage. I wanted to Answer with Apple Watch and dictation (as I used to do successfully prior ti watchos 6). Now: music stops. My Apple Watch goes to black screen and “Siri wave form screen”, I dictate the message but nothing happens. I try more and more, nothing! So I go back to watch faces: music doesn’t resume, AirPods are disconnected. This happens since September 19th. I can’t use Siri on Apple Watch, I can’t listen to music and use Siri, if I do it AirPods disconnect. A mess. 5 months!!

I think it may come to this year's watch OS 7. Just not exactly as you may expect. Meaning you won't be able to slap some Swiss watch faces on it. But you may be able to customize the existing one by adding images of your choice on the background or creating new ones in a specific way that Apple may allow (example: the same way you personalize memoji from the scratch). This is just what I think may happen.

My cellular plan has "unlimited Data", and as these iOS updates are not horrendously large - I wish we could opt out of the manditory Wi-Fi download requirement.

I may be a bit off base, maybe wrong, but I think this whole wifi requirement started to limit the traffic for the cellular networks, not to protect the customer with unlimited data. Imagine everyone updating their iPhones on the same day. It would really congest network traffic.

I understand about data usage but for me its the app updates themselves... Not the core iOS/Watch updates. Despite most I still miss iTunes, I would perform all app updates and then when significant or time to backup did over my Mac so wouldn't impact data usage. As a family of 7 having to plug in your device synch an update your apps. Now have to perform step-step across multiple devices... sighso_Oo_Oo_O
Wifi sync still works in macOS Catalina, it's just in the Finder now.
