Would be nice if I could actually update my watch. Been like this ever since the update was announced.

I think this was the fastest update to date. I was annoyed it didn’t update overnight so started it when I woke up. Was surprised to see it was done so quick.

No problems at all updating my Series 3 Apple Watch. This is my third or fourth software update since getting my watch in November and have not had any of the dreaded problems people warn of with the Series 3 not being able to download updates due to lack of space. This is not to say that others don't experience the issue, but for me, there have been no problems. I think anyone considering a Series 3 as a basic Apple Watch should not be deterred from getting one because if fear they won't be able to update their watch easily.

I doubt anyone was deterring people from getting a S3 because of the ease of downloading updates. That’s really not a concern since it’s not hard to initiate an update. The problem is people see it as bad investment because it’s so old you may not get as many updates. This was a simple security update. But you may not get many feature updates.

You’re wrong about that. Go look through some posts on the Apple Watch forum and Reddit. That’s all people do is discourage people from buying the Series 3 because of update issues - not because of its age. And, just to add, I performed the last major WatchOS update on the watch with no issues, not just minor updates like yesterday’s.

Again you’re missing the point. It’s not about being able to perform the updates. It’s about having long term access to them. And, sure, you are getting major updates for now. You just won’t get as many as you would’ve had you gotten any other watch above 3.

It finally worked when I took the watch off the charger and then put it back onto the charger.

Was your watch battery low? Let me try it.

Edit: Still doesn't work for me. I checked on Watch to update shows error and then I try to update on Watch App said I need latest iOS. Freaking Apple!!!

You’re not following me- but that’s okay. The argument people are making is that there isn’t enough storage on the Series 3 to do any updates and that when they try to update the watch they have to wipe the watch completely before performing the update. I know what I’m talking about.

If they’re using a lot of storage they are correct. Now does this happen for everyone? No, but it happens enough. If it happened to me I’d let others know of my experience. Just because it’s not happening to you now doesn’t mean that it won’t or it can’t. In any case the S3 is still a bad investment if bought brand new.

You aren’t the only one who knows what they’re talking about here.

Yes, my Series 3 watch wants 2.0 GB of free space and with only one app installed (Dark Sky), it only has 1.0 GB of free space. I cannot free nearly enough space to make the watch install the update. The only way to install the update is to erase it and set it up as new following the recommendations of Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211283

That really sucks. Thank you for your reply. See myrtlebee here’s someone else who is experiencing this issue. It looks to me like they know what they’re talking about.  knows too.

You’re still not understanding me, but I’ll leave it at that.

No, it’s that you don’t want to admit that this is an issue because you want to justify your S3.
Read my first post. I said it was an issue for some. My point is that it is not an issue for everyone and that people should not be discouraged from buying a Series 3 on this issue alone. You then bring up an entirely different issue (of future software support) that has nothing to do with the point I’m trying to make. You are just looking to argue for argument’s sake.

“Justify” my S3? lol! You are something else. I can afford any watch I want, but the S3 is just fine. I don’t need the latest watch to impress people like you.

I’m not arguing. I’m just clearly saying why I, and many others, do not recommend getting an S3. Do you think that the issue is minor enough to not need a warning? If so, I totally disagree if that’s your opinion. In my opinion this is a major issue, affecting only some people, with a crappy solution. The S3 costs too much money to maybe have to deal with this issue. Pair it with the longevity issue and it’s a bad recommendation overall.

I agree (obviously) that if people's concerns are longevity of software support, it is not for them since it will probably only see one more major version of WatchOS. However, I do not agree that someone should not buy the S3 solely based on fears that they won't be able to update the software when it's available, since clearly (based on my experience and others') that is not the case for everyone.

But it’s not based on fears. And it certainly isn’t solely based on them. This is something that could and does happen. Why get it when there’s a much better alternative? I realize that it’s $80 more, but that also gets you 4 times the storage and so much more. And with so many people not recommending the S3 people can then make an informed decision for themselves.

You're still not following me. The (valid) arguments you are making are not solely based on the S3 sometimes not updating to the latest software version because of storage space, but I (from the beginning) have been talking about people who do discourage others from buying the S3 solely based on that one factor. They state how they love the watch otherwise and don't care about the other factors you mention. Whether you know it or not, I am telling you there are people who have been making the argument that people should not buy a S3 solely based on that factor, not the other issues you mention. Also, it is a fear - it does not happen for all users. In fact, I would be willing to bet it doesn't happen to most users of S3 watches.

I wish they would add support to show your phones battery life in the watch battery widget. I love being able to put my watch on a charger and be able to check it remotely from iOS, but sometimes my phone is the one getting the battery pick me up and it would be nice to monitor that from my watch. At the very least, allow the alert that shows when the phone is "sufficiently charged" to come through on the watch.

My watch was actually dead before the updates came out. So while I was updating my phone I put my watch on the charger. I think usually if I go from dead watch to fully charged I can never seem to request an update.
