Apple today released watchOS 9.6.1, a minor bug fix update for the Apple Watch. watchOS 9.6.1 is a free software update that comes two weeks after the launch of watchOS 9.6, another bug fix update.

watchOS 9.6.1 can be downloaded for free through the Apple Watch app on the iPhone by opening it up and going to General > Software Update. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it needs to be placed on a charger, and it needs to be in range of the ‌‌‌‌‌‌iPhone‌‌‌‌‌‌.

According to Apple, the update includes a fix for an issue that prevented access to motion data for apps that use the Movement Disorder API to track tremors and symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease.

watchOS 9 will soon be replaced with watchOS 10, the next-generation version of watchOS that Apple is currently beta testing.

Connecting the AW Ultra to wifi didn't change the transfer speed (or putting it on the charger). Still says 2 hours, and bar is not even 10% there, lol.

Mine started at 2 hours, but 30 minutes in, it dropped to 58 minutes. now down to 46 minutes.
Yep, I checked a little bit ago and it was down to 1 hour and ... checked again just now and it's now preparing (45 mins total it seems. Nice.

Edit: 10 mins later, installing.

do you initiate the update from the watch itself or thru your phone?
I started doing updates thru the AW and the process is much improved ...

AWU: And installed. 11:35am. So 10:26am - 11:35am. Just over an hour. Watch got pretty warm (I left it on the charger the moment it started downloading). <shrug>.

Does anyone else find the Apple Watch manual update process really irritating?

First, it seems to take forever to download and install to the Apple Watch from my iPhone.

Second, why do I need the Apple Watch to be on the charger AND have 50% battery for it to install?

Third, why do I need to enter my password twice on the Apple Watch to authorize the update? I shouldn’t have to do it at all.
