apple remote quit working how to resolve?

Hey all just went to use my apple remote this morning with frontrow and found that it no longer works at all with my macbook. Now I have used it quite a bit so I'm suspecting its a dead battery but I have no idea how to change them or if its even posible and what type it takes.

Also I'm wondering if something could have become messed up in Leopards settings overnight(who knows I may have inadvertently disabled it while sleeputing' 😀 )? I'm not sure were to check on that though.

Hopefully someone else knows how to check/fix this so I can avoid a lengthy trip to the Apple store for a simple issue 😉
