Apple Remote

I'm trying to get my remote to work with my MacBook, but it won't. When I shake the remote it seems like something inside is a bit loose. How can I take this thing apart or get it to work?

Could it also be a dead battery? This is how to open it from the battery compartment. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302543
