I hope they don't change the compatibility with the watch bands for the new watch, I want them all to still be useable. Also, I like that the screen size will be bigger, but I really want a round watch! It just looks so much better than square/rectangle, in my opinion.

When some bands cost $150, they better stay compatible.

No, I was playing into the ongoing joke on MacRumors about new watch band development trumping every other form of R&D going on within Apple.
Gotcha. Didn’t pick up on the implicit “/s”. sbt

That isn't quite what he meant - see, it's that people don't especially want the bands that are selling out, but they feel moved to help Apple in their time of need, knowing that Apple Stores have limited floor and stockroom space, and Apple can't afford to deal with this unloved merchandise themselves, so these good samaritans are easing Apple's burden. Pretty charitable of them really.
Omg, I’m glad I was at a red light when I was reading that. He said he was playing into a running joke, so mea culpa.

why on earth would anyone purchase bands from apple when they can buy the exact same bands for a 10th of the price on any website...
I'm not sure you know what the phrase "exact same" means. The bands you can get from "any website" are roughly the same shape as Apple's bands, but they are not the same material and they are not the same quality. Maybe try restating your question so that it is rooted in actual facts?

You can get bands for cheaper and I have, but go much cheaper, and they’ll actually be terrible. And certainly if we go “a tenth” the price.

Woo hoo!!! Way to go Timmy Cook!

New Watch Bands and Emojis!!!!!

So innovative! I'll have to mortgage my house and collect all of them!

I've bought a few over the years between $40-60 or so. At that price you have to consider them disposable for sure. That's fine and has its place.

You need to head up ~$200 territory before you get anything decent (Juuk for example) and above that you should expect lasting quality.

Who buys overpriced bands from Apple when I can 3 or 4 for the same price on Amazon.
I do.

Bought a few bands from amazon and the quality was horrible. It was ultimately easier to just get a Nike band from the Apple store. The difference in quality is like day and night. Just not worth the time wasted in trial and error for me, especially for something like a watch band which I expect to just work.

People think square is ugly because most watches are round. Young or old, few people like change from what they know. I know that a rectangular watch is by far the best option for displaying data, yet I like round watches.

That said, kids being born now will not understand older people's weird preoccupation with round watches.

Circular watch would be awful and limit so much functionality. Just think about it..There is a reason it's square.

My wife and I have multiple silicone bands each from this site. I have multiple colors as I like the variety versus just the one that came with my nike apple watch. I use their bands a lot more than the one that came with my watch and they are holding up better. Durability seems the same but the apple band gets a lot more dirty.

I've bought quite a few leather bands from amazon as well and they have been great. One metal band I got was horrible though (for my wife).

This is a comment directed at all the "quality" comments before me. Just because it's not made by Apple, doesn't mean you can't get a band of the same or better quality for a lesser price.

On topic: Bands are the entire reason I own an Apple Watch now. I had an original and there just weren't enough bands out. I have quite a few watches and like variety. I got the latest gen earlier this year and due to the amount of bands I can now get I wear my watch all the time (whereas I sold my original a few months after getting it as I was wearing my other watches too often).

If they change the way the bands connect and mine are no longer compatible with gen4 (which I do not think they will), I will not upgrade.

Just wondering if anyone cares about what actual features will actually be introduced or improved on the Series 4 Watch over “OMG! My bands!!” The Watch must not be that needful of a device if a design change and potential obsolescence of bands will stop so many from upgrading just like that. Just an observation. Nothing more. Apple take note.

Whether or not I upgrade to the Series 4 will depend upon the iPad Pro, not band compatibility. I’m ready to move beyond my Air 2 and have been waiting for iPP redesign. That’s priority (along with the 11 Plus) over the AW4 for me. I still love my Series 3 just fine.

If you paid 1/10 Apple’s retail price for something that looks like something Apple makes, I promise it’s not the exact same thing.

It depends on what you're after. Apple's bands are very high quality. For example, they use fluoroelastomer for their Sport bands, while nearly every Sport band knockoff uses silicone. Apple also pays huge attention to seasonal colors and has become a surprising trendsetter in that regard. If you want a fashion-forward color for the season, Apple is probably your best bet.

I fully understand that many or even most people may not care about those things, or may simply value them less than the extra money Apple's products costs. But there are qualitative differences, and they are worth something to some of us.

If the new Watch is not compatible with these bands I predict massive riots on the streets. Civil war alert.

OTOH I still use my original Black sport band and it’s holding up well.

Kids born today likely won't learn cursive writing, analog time, or how to drive a car oneself (by the time they're old enough, many cars will be self driving). Weird to watch science fiction slowly creep into reality.

I like round watches too (have a couple of nice ones that are getting neglected because of my Apple Watch), but I wouldn't want the limitations inherent in a round smartwatch - loses too much screen real estate just for cuteness.
