The slow death of the Beddit sleep monitoring accessory continues.

Apple last week removed the iPhone apps for Beddit models 3.0 and 3.5 from the App Store, according to MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.

Apple acquired Beddit in 2017, and it has gradually reduced hardware and software capabilities and support for the accessory since. Apple removed cloud syncing from the original Beddit app in 2018, released an updated version of the accessory with fewer features in 2019, and stopped selling the accessory entirely in 2022.

Beddit's thin, flexible sensor strip could be placed on a mattress for sleep tracking purposes. It is likely that Apple acquired Beddit to bolster development of sleep tracking on the Apple Watch, which debuted as part of watchOS 7 in 2020.

We have not confirmed if the Beddit apps still function for existing customers.

Thought this was a BBEdit takedown story for a mo…! 😅

If Apple wants to use the technology in it's watch does that mean they have removed the sensor strip from it's store? I wonder how this will affect Beddit owners because it looks like the Beddit strip is no longer being supported.

There are much better solutions anyway (like the eight sleep stuff). Pitty for those that bought into this ecosystem just to watch it get aqui-hired into oblivion. Such is the Tao of Apple.

I had bought a Beddit sensor from the Apple Store shortly before Apple acquired them. It is rather disappointing that Apple would abandon a product that it sold and later acquired. That feels like something Google does.

If I ever made an app, I would pray to all the gods every night that Apple buys it one day.
More likely to have your ideas stolen, er, Sherlocked. But Apple’s issues with developer relations remain an impenetrable mystery

Amazing that the Beddit firmware is actually considered to be an official Apple OS, per their dev. documentation.

Same! And I legitimately started panicking! 😱

BBEdit has been my highest value productivity tool since the 20th century.

The thought of it going away is nightmare-fuel.

Just like how I thought it was for some kind of 3rd party Reddit app 😅

Withings Sleep Mat is a great alternative. Been using it for years and it works flawlessly plus integrates into IFTTT for shutting off lights when getting into bed etc.

I'm right there with you guys! I've got multiple BBedit windows open pretty much throughout each and every work day.

It's one of very few things that, whenever I think of leaving macOS for Linux, makes me hit the brakes hard... there's just nothing like it on another platform!
