I can't imagine being so passionate about something so trivial.

I never liked the icon, the interface, or the fact that it popped open every time I opened a game. I have no desire to use it. It's a wasteful app to me and I'm glad to see it finally go.

Based on what I have heard and read so far, I don't believe GameCenter is going away.
What's going away is the GameCenter app. I guess Apple (and many users) considered it unnecessary.

Apple now wants developers to use GameKit to provide customized GameCenter functionality to their apps.
It's quicker and easier to see scores and raking within a game than having to open another app and search for these.

it does not matter because I am not upgrading to IOS 10. They are systematically moving us in the direction that they want not giving us what we want.

Okay, now I understand. That makes a lot of sense. Now I'm wishing Game Center had been implemented that way from the beginning....

It could have, but first, developers and users needed to become familiar with its concept and functionality.

Now that everyone is familiar with how GameCenter works and what it does, step two is to make it become part of the app. This is how Apple does things. We may hate it because we feel they move slow, but in the long run it may be better for both Developers and users.

Apple breaks Game Center with iOS update.
Apple doesn't fix Game Center.
Apple sees Game Center usage is way down.
Apple deletes Game Center.

My problem with Game Center right now is that there is really no way to turn it off. It likes to log me out for some reason and then whenever I open any app that uses it, like Threes, I immediately get a popup asking me to log into the Game Center. Extremely annoying.

First they ruin it then kill it.

We released our first game right after iOS 9 was released. Game center was supported and working in iOS 8 before the release of iOS 9. But when the iOS 9 GM was released Game Center was SO FOULED UP we just decided to rip it out of the game. Game Center was the biggest casualty of the train wreck that iOS 9 still is...

I guess all the past year's WWDC Game Center videos that specify logging in to game center during app launch will be expunged....

Quick question for devs on macOS Sierra: is Game Center removed from the macOS as well?

The weird thing about implementing it this way is that there's no central app in which you can view and more importantly manage your friends.

I don't understand all the hate towards the Game Center app. The app itself is fairly small and non-complicated. It was what? Like 2 megabytes of space? Probably less? And that's going to make a bunch of crybabies out of "pros" who have 64GB iPhones here?

As evidenced by several posters here, many casual gamers used it for things like achievements, scoreboards, ladders, finding online game opponents, etc. I agree that it should have been "Optional" (which means you could delete it, or you could simply just download it from App Store if you really wanted it). But the crybabies hated it so much that they celebrate Apple killing the app altogether? What stupid logic.
