My neighbor's 5 day old 10.5 was bent really bad when one of his kids (still alive) jumped on it while it was sitting on the couch. He called me and I told him to take it to the Apple store that they would give him a better than buy new price to replace it.

He and his wife took it to the Apple store and the geek took the bent pad to the back room. After about 15 minutes, they came out with a brand new sealed retail unit and told him to consider it his lucky day. He said his wife almost cried.

Sometimes Apple goes beyond warranty.:apple:

That would never happen in my country, because the previous abuses of workers goodwill have made them more strict than ever.

Even in America Apple has tightened up on things as it was also getting abused. This act was beyond what I thought they would do anymore. These people just had a baby and money was tight but both agreed to pay what ever they had to replace their new iPad. Apple gained two customers for life.

I guess it all depends on the individual dealing with the case.

I spend tons of money with Apple and they never do anything for me. Not once.

These types of situations are variable. Not every Apple store is going to provide the same experience everywhere. I can tell you firsthand from the Apple stores in my area, none of them are alike. It really comes down to the staff members, willingness and attitude, and overall understanding of the customer.

A bit ago I lost one of my AirPods, knowing Apple sells replacement I contacted customer service, first I was told it would be $69 blah blah and I was fine with it, but then because of my shipping to a po box I was transferred to a supervisor, who promptly told me she had sent out the replacement and that no payment window was created. It's nice to know Apple is still nice once in awhile. (Shortly after I found it in the dryer after the cycle, it amazingly survived both the wash and the dryer and now I have a free spare)

I hadn't had it happen often myself, but this past February my Smart Keyboard stopped working and I took it in (and my fairly recently cracked, but out of warranty, 12.9) and they replaced both for free. Then this month I got my 2012 MBP Retina replaced with a brand new top spec 2017 as part of the battery replacement program, so I definitely have a good opinion of their customer service...

I am ashamed to admit, if it were my kid . . . .
I have a 2011 model and they’re plagued with issues. ;)

We also got the 2016 version last fall, but we’re still trying to see how it fits into our workflow. o_O

And now others who have damaged their Apple products with their own negligence will feel they deserve the same treatment and are entitled to the same experience.

Regardless, good on Apple & happy for your neighbor.

People who feel entitled to that are going to feel that way regardless... the rest of us are fortunate if it happens

That kid must’ve went to the Walmart I go to! There’s an iPad Mini on display that’s bent pretty badly some how. Still works though and the screen isn’t messed up at all. You can see light on the side from the backlight and everything.
