I am the original owner of a 12" G3 ibook. It is on its 3rd motherboard. The 3rd board was put in a while back (can't remember, maybe 3 yrs ago...long time ago) under the extended warranty. Well, I just took a look and noticed that they replaced my 900Mhz board with an 800Mhz one! I don't know if that happened on the first pcb replacement or the second one. I never suspected they would do that, so I never checked back when the boards were replaced. I'm kinda pissed now! My only real disappointment with this machine is internet video playback from youtube and hulu is so choppy it's unwatchable, and I'm thinking maybe it would be ok if they hadn't stolen 100Mhz from me. I suppose at this point there's nothing I can do about it, but I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of them doing this?

It happens, though they have tried to add in some checks at the repair centers to reduce it.

3 years after the repair when the mistake can no longer be corrected can be an issue.

All in all, just write a letter to the steve jobs e-mail address.

Yeah, I don't expect that anything will be done at this point, but I would like to bring it to their attention. Can you post that email address?

Does Apple even have replacements for that old of notebook? What would you get if they didn't?

Just sent him an email. Kinda doubt I'll get a response. Almost feel silly even bringing it up, but then again why not....I just found out they removed 11% of my processor power. I feel slightly burned.

I wonder if the extra power would make enough difference so online videos would be tolerable. Hulu is unusable, and even Youtube is slightly choppy.

Try to do something about it. Don't let Apple gouge you. Tell them to fix the problem. Have your receipts and all documentation ready. You deserve to get what you paid for with your hard-earned money. If one Apple representative is unhelpful, call back a couple of minutes later and speak to someone else.

Call them?

Why does everytime something happen, somebody has to mention emailing Steve Jobs.

Leave the guy alone!

I see your point, but as a customer, I think this goes beyond normal stances. It's like you paid for 900 MHz, but you are actually getting only 800MHz. In machines of that type of conectivity, 100 MHz is alot.

Seeing as how I started this thread, and just to let everyone know what happened in the end, I got no response from Steve-O, and sold the ibook.

For anyone interested in reading about the further adventures of my bad Mac karma, I just started a thread about how "Repair Permissions" isn't working for me, and hence I am left with a DVD burner in my iMac that won't burn.
