...and I'm not being a smart ass. They have never let me down. They've had their bad apples, no pun intended, but they have always seemed to scratch their way into my good graces. I don't understand why some Americans are having such issues. Could it be the way I speak to them? Could it be the way I persist and don't take "no" for an answer? I'm not sure. All I know is their CS is the ONLY reason why I am still an Apple consumer, cause I am NOT proud of their products anymore. Perhaps I will be, of the 16", but nothing since the 2014" pro. Mac mini I guess...
Anyway, a quick summary about my experience since the 2014 15" MBP:
I bought it with Applecare. It failed on me after 1 year. Otherwise, it was amazing. They attempted to fix it 3 times and replaced it with a 2017 specced out 15". That one was actually pretty good but they released the hex core and so I had to sell it and upgrade. That leads to where I am at now, and what's been going on in the last year.
As you probably guessed, this moron got the specced out i9. Yep, thing was on fire every chance it got. It never really worked well and just got worse. So I went to buy the warranty in November and was told they stopped Applecare in September. With my anger now on fire I exclaimed how radically ****ED UP that was. Whined my way to a relationship specialist and got taken care of.
First, he offered me a microphone to apologize. Oh, I still had a warranty for a few days, under the original year. I said that wasn't gonna cut it and... asked for a space gray magic trackpad. Hahaha, yea I almost sold out, but I stayed the course. He sent them both out and offered a mail in repair. Smooth sailing.
Got it back. They had replaced the logic board and touch bar board. I was thrilled, BUT WAIT!.. The true tone was flickering on and off, the Mac overheated worse than ever and it stopped charging. OH, and I realized the screws were stripped and one even fell right out. The tech did a pathetic job apparently. So I took screen shots of the buttons repeating, STILL, the CPU idling at 800MHZ, other stuff, but worst of all, it had gotten SO hot that the heat escaped through the keyboard and melted it on the way out. YEA... My keys were warped UPwards.
So I call my guy. "Hey "my guy", this thing is worse than ever and now my buttons are melted. My guy's solution was to send in a data capture so they could check it out before they repaired it again. Keep in mind, this is over a month after my first claim, because I had been patient and worked with them, waiting on calls and solutions and testing. This time, the data somehow showed that the CPU was never getting hot and it was "files" causing my buttons to repeat and causing my batter to not charge. Yea. A bad file causing my buttons to repeat and my true tone to flicker off. So "my guy" basically says "well we aren't doing anything else and Apple will not repair it again because the data doesn't show that there is an issue". Now I'm not little old lady who surfs the web so I had some valid rebuttals but he held his ground.
LUCKILY, I do away with this awesome rep gone rabid and was put in touch with a tech guy. Tech guy looked over my evidence and was like "yea you got hard ware issues for sure man". Lets send it in. Come to find out, they had to replace LITERALLY EVERYTHING except the bottom pan. I **** you not. They replaced the display assembly, whole top case, battery, heat sink, and a couple of other things. It was SO bad and had gotten SO hot that it murdered everything in the Mac. I also believe that the tech crossed some wires and shorted out the display, given it came back with an issue it never had.
SO, now I'm testing it out. Apparently if it has anymore issues, they will upgrade me to an 8 core. Given that everything is new, I doubt I will have issues anymore. So I think I'm gonna sell it as "like new" or "refurbished" and just get the new 16".
So yea, Apple support is actually quite amazing. They've given me tons of free stuff in the last few years and have always bent over backwards to help. The couple of times I got a "know it all" bozo, it was quickly remedied by talking to someone else. For this, and also because I use Logic exclusively, I will continue on with Apple for some time. It was a dirty thing they did to nix the Applecare program right before millions of people could upgrade, but I'm gonna give them that one.
So yea, Apple replaced my Macbook Pro in the most round about way possible. Unintentionally, yes, but replaced none the less, and I am thankful.
KEEP pushing. KEEP trying. If you have problems with anything and it's justified they fix it, don't take one rotten Apple's "no" as gospel.
Have a Merry Christmas.
