Imagine if Apple is just bidding on it to move it higher and higher with no real intention of buying it just to screw with Netflix and make them pay more. 🤣
This is right up Apple's alley though - this fits Apple's content mold (empowering topic, humanistic, big centerpiece actor). I think Apple is going to pay whatever it takes to grab this.

they probably cancelled most of MacOS development, so they can do movies and emojis on the same time without loosing focus :)

takes "courage" though ...
Wow, I didn't think of that! Stunning, fantastic, remarkable decision. Tremendous

you must be one of the few who actually didn’t cancel after the free trial.
Hahaha yeah can you imagine being one of these sheeple liking something not objectively the best and being able to enjoy it without seeing what's wrong with it? I could never be like that. Putting someone down for something they enjoy like I'm an authority figure on it (even though I'm not) makes me feel elevated above casual enjoyer status and like I'm really changing something.

I'm sure this is unrelated but does anyone know why I'm so terribly unhappy and lonely

Apple is willing to go into a bidding war for a Star in a TV film, while they ripping millions of musicians-composers with lower than working kids wages for streaming music. Pathetic!

Why would Apple need to make amends for this? It was a phishing scheme not a hack! What Ms. Lawrence had serious trouble with was protecting her log in credentials.
Yes and IMO it was a universal karma for one of the most entitled, odious celebrities in Hollywood. Couldn't have happened to a better person. Lucky for me this movie has no interest for me.

I wish we could know what the real paying subscriber count is on ATV+.

I bet it's not that many.
I wandered about that and created a poll here on MR...

... Ofc., it's limited to the MR community and others who wander onto the site, so it's going to be a small sample of the total market, but I was still curious to see what those of us here were on as their sub plan.

And it's worth noting that while there are a fair number of people who have access to Apple TV+, they don't actually use it because it's part of Apple One. They use enough of the other services on A1 such that it's still cheaper to just sub to that, even if they haven't used ATV+ in a long time. Ditto with Apple Arcade.

I could see this going either way... O1H, Apple is wealthy enough to just outbid anybody else on the planet (including whole countries!). If they want something that fits their business model and culture, they'll go for it and likely get it. OTOH, if Apple's counting the pennies b/c they do want to make profit, they'll need to set themselves a limit since going beyond that will lose them money.

Imagine if Netflix went with quality over quantity. Wait, then they would be Apple+.

OK, Apple TV+ programming isn't for you, so what are you watching these days and what would you recommend?

From my observations, I can objectively say that with ATV+. Their "signal to noise" ratio does seem to be very good, if not topping all the other SS (streaming services). That said, when my ATV+ trial ends, I'm likely to cancel it to move on to another SS. Except for a few seasons of Netflix stuff I watched at other people's houses, I'm completely new to that. Their "signal to noise ratio" may not be as good as ATV+, but they still have quite a few quality shows I'm interested in, and those that are not rated as highly, but I'd still be interested in checking out. I've already done a bit of Hulu, Paramount Plus, and Disney+, and plan to return to those to check out their other fare.

I can totally see myself returning to ATV+... but only for a month or 3. This to wrap up some shows/movies I didn't get to previously and when they release new films, and additional seasons of stuff I've already seen. And iapplelove isn't wrong either. Not just here on MR, but I'm reading on other forums that ATV+ is great, but the content is lacking such that they can binge everything they'd like to in a month or 3, cancel, and just resume their sub when there's new content they'd like to watch.

You should add "had free trial with new device, now paying" and "had a free trial with new device, did not subscribe at the end"
