Apple is seeking additional office spaces in Pittsburgh and New York City, according to a pair of reports this week.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Apple is in talks about taking up to 90,000 square feet of space in the 111-year-old Pittsburgh Athletic Association building in the city's Oakland neighborhood, across the street from the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning.

Bloomberg meanwhile reported that Apple has also recently looked at Essex Crossing, a mixed-use development in Manhattan's Lower East Side that will have 350,000 square feet of office space upon completion.

In a December 2018 press release, Apple revealed plans to grow its employee base in regions across the United States over the following three years, expanding to over 1,000 employees in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City each, and adding hundreds of new jobs in Pittsburgh, New York, Boulder, Boston, and Portland.

Last month, Apple also broke ground on a new $1 billion campus in Austin, Texas slated to open in 2022. Apple says the campus will initially house 5,000 employees, with the capacity to grow to 15,000.

sounds like a fun place to work
Indeed, it’s going to be beautiful. And at 133 acres quite large, though that includes a public 50 acre nature and wildlife preserve. From the linked article:
In partnership with Austin-based Bartlett Tree Experts, Apple said it will plant thousands of trees spanning over 20 varieties native to Texas on the campus. Apple says landscaping will cover over 60 percent of the property, including a 50-acre nature and wildlife preserve that will be open to the public.

I remember what this publication was like before Apple bought it....
Yeah I know how disappointing good news about Apple can be, but there’s bound to be news of a lawsuit or recall or something else nice and juicy real soon now. Until then maybe this will hold you over ;) Just posted a couple hours ago, you might have missed it...

interesting, i imagined apple would seek office space in a more attractive neighborhood than the les...

Essex Crossing is actually absolutely beautiful. I just checked out Market Line the other day there and it's an incredible new food hall/market. And all of the office spaces and new apartments (albeit ungodly expensive) look beautiful too!

I used to live in Oakland. It's a charming old neighborhood with a mix of Pitt students and OG families from back in the day. If Apple moves in I don't predict anything good in terms of housing costs.

Anyone not named Pitt moving in is a good thing.

I still smile whenever I think about the Simon's refusing to sell The O to Pitt.

Would love to see Apple expand in the US. NYC made a mistake with Amazon. Let's hope they don't do it with Apple.

FYI Amazon is hiring and expanding their offices almost at the same rate the promised to do with their proposed campus in NYC.
