Apple has informed suppliers that it's now expecting the iPhone 14 lineup to sell better than it originally thought, increasing the number of devices it will produce and ship to 95 million rather than 90 million, according to the Taiwan Economic Times.

According to the report, Apple told suppliers to increase the number of iPhones it will produce and ship to 95 million units, an increase of 5% compared to the company's prior expectations. Citing research, the report says the highest-end iPhone 14 Pro Max will be the most abundant.

Apple reportedly repeated a similar sentiment to suppliers last month, saying the iPhone 14 is likely to do better than the iPhone 13 series.

Mass production of the iPhone 14 is expected to begin this month as suppliers have been ramping up component shipments in the last several weeks. The iPhone 14 series will consist of two 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models, including the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Max, the iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

On the higher-end models of the upcoming iPhone lineup, users can expect several notable changes, including bolstered camera capabilities with a new 48MP lens, a new pill-shaped and hole-punch notch replacement, faster performance with the A16 chip, and more.

If iPhone 14 base model having roughly same specs and dimensions as last year's iPhone 13 outsells the 13, it would send clear signal to other companies as they can use ancient SOCs in their overpriced phones and still get away. Selling third class 60Hz screens in 2022 under premium pricing is just shameful too.

Of course, many people want the 6.7-inch mainstream model. Consumers finally get what they want. Apple lost two years of sales opportunity with the 5.4-inch mini that nobody wanted. In addition, the two new form factor Pro models will sell themselves.

Apple's phone chips are really good, that they can use the A15 for base iPhone 14. Can android OEMs do the same?

They are certainly welcome to try.

At the end of the day, consumers vote with their wallets.

And we all know how that tends to work out for Apple ultimately.

Yes, we are talking about Apple here.

Plus, the majority of consumers don't even know what's inside.

The 13 mini is by far the most popular 13 model I see around. If I were to only go by what my eyes tell me, then the 13 mini is the best selling of the 13 series. I’ve never seen anyone with a pro max in person. I have no idea who actually buys the big phones.

Not necessarily. The calculation might also be on the number of users on previous iPhone versions who might want to upgrade. For example, if you are expecting the 14 Pro to be sold primarily to former Xs users the numbers might be lower since the Xs didn’t sell that well.

Using by last year’s SoC isn’t going to matter much either given Apple’s lead at the moment in mobile chips. If they translate the saved component costs into better camera or larger batteries it would still be an attractive phone.

I disagree, as I am one of those “nobodies” who wanted and got the 12 mini and really likes it. It is light, compact, quite sturdy (due to its lightness), has an excellent screen and a very good camera setup. So if you move a lot (as I do), it can work for you very well. When I drive, it is plugged to CarPlay, when I am at home/office, I have an 11” iPad and 13” MBP to use. If I could only have one Apple device or had no choice, I could probably consider a larger phone, but the way things are I still would not want to go larger than 5.8”.

I believe I'm speaking for a sizable portion of people here: I care a lot more about where it's manufactured rather than what it has inside of it.
I doubt manufacturing it in any specific country would affect sales one way or the other unless the actual cost of the unit changes.

You may want to visit an Asian country to find out.

I am really curious how this will sell in Germany with everyone already loosing their damn mind about the inflation and upcoming gas and electricity shortages / price hikes.

I personally will hold onto my iPhone 12 Pro Max for another year. Going to wait for the EU enforced USB-C iPhone with the rumoured periscope camera lens. Phones have majored (is that how you say it in English?) It makes little sense to spend so much money on an iPhone anymore. You literally go back using the exact same apps, from the exact same Home Screen, the exact same way anyway. Nothing wrong with a majored product of course! It just means, its good at what it does.

Don’t you feel lucky no one is forcing you to buy them?
