No wait for the iPhone 17 which will be better, but buy a 14 now! 👍 🤣
LOL! I did. I am just waiting for it to arrive. Going from an 11 Pro Max to a 14 Pro Max. I figured with the 15 Pro rumors being made out of titanium, prices will go up significantly. Keeping the 14 Pro Max for at least 3 years if not longer.

Not everyone upgrades their phone every year, and not everyone is on the same upgrade cycle. If you only release an iPhone every two to three years, or even 18 months, you will see same shortages we're seeing now, but for a different reason. That does not generate revenue. Releasing an iPhone every year captures the various upgrade patterns while simultaneously generating apple's single largest revenue stream.
Seems like the iPhone 14 and maybe the iPhone 14 also do not generate much revenue...

Samsung Galaxy S23 (next March?) is expected to use this new RAM. It will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which does support LPDDR5x. If they manage this that would be a big (1.5 year) lead on Apple.

Man, the iPhone 16 is going to be amazing this year!

Wait. wut?
Uh, yes it will.
A17 will incorporate two years of pending ideas, delayed because of N3 delays (and ultimately because of covid).

Apple is never first with new DRAM technology in phones (look at LPDDR5) because
- initial volumes are not large enough to supply Apple's need and
- initial DRAM designs aren't yet fully optimized for minimal energy usage

8 gigs should be pretty considerable though! Sometimes I do find there to be too much background refreshing going on.

Always surprised that RAM isn't accounted for by most reviewers when looking at iPhones. One of the most compelling reasons to pick an iPhone 14 over 13, for instance, is because the RAM is now 6 gigs making it much more likely the phone will last a few extra years longer.

iPhone 13 and 14 Pro models have the same RAM

Speed of RAM is much better if the same amount of RAM across 1 generation.

That's why I prefer Samsung phones. Samsung manufactures many critical components themselves (RAM, NAND memory, displays, camera sensors etc.) so they get the first dibs on everything.

If USB-c is the "next big thing," it would be a big disappointment to most iPhone users/purchasers and imo, not be a big enough change to promote wide spread upgrades from iPhone 14.

Yep, keeping things mediocre is what has always made Apple great. Just look at the success of the M2 MacBook Airs! This is a surefire strategy to boost sales and it's reputation.

realistically how many people are even going to notice or care?

i don't buy a phone for performance. i mean as long as it's not super slow i'm fine. even if i did play games i'm not sure i'll notice faster RAM. the most important thing is the cpu/gpu and the amount of ram. i have spent about £3k on a gaming PC and RAM speed is not going to affect performance significantly. you're talking maybe a few % difference.

i'll get a new iphone whenever the battery sucks or it runs so slow. my launch 12 pro max still has 92% battery health and i haven't noticed any slow down in loading or switching between apps.

touch id under display, fold iPhone, when is the next big iPhone thing like iPhone X
Don’t tell me i have to wait until iPhone XX
well we're getting iPhone 15 this year. could be the iPhone 20 before we see anything major.

Belive me fast RAM and tight latencies make HUGE difference with modern Ryzen or Intel.
