I'm fine with this I think. My last watch was $360 so assuming it's well designed and well built I feel like I could go for this. It really needs to feel like a watch tho, not a toy. Stainless enclosure, sapphire, water proof up to 20 ft or so (so I can shower or swim in a pool with it).

Assuming they actually DO incorporate a lot of sensors in it, I would assume this would be the same or cheaper than buying a seperate piece of equipment to measure each one (blood pressure, pedometer, pulse, etc.).

I'm at least willing to consider it...

In all honesty though, people's likes in fashion and watches vary incredibly. This seems like a heck of a task to tackle.

Nike obviously couldn't sell Fuelband and abandoned it, so if Apple is partnering with them, that won't be enough to sell at $400 in my opinion.

This watch better do a WHOLE LOT MORE for $400.

Let's see. I wear a jawbone that monitors my physical activity for about £100. A good fingertip or ear lobe pulse oximeter that is certified for medical monitoring of heart beat, Sp02, etc is about £50 (including OLED display, software, several hours' recording worth of flash memory, and USB cabling for pairing with a computer), and frankly that's pretty given the low costs of the components. And if one converts GBP to USD on a 1-to-1 ratio, which always seems to be the case no matter what the bloody exchange rate says, I expected the iWatch to be in the $200-$250 range (with the Apple premium :p).

$400??? There's not a snowball's chance in hell I would pay that much for something on my wrist...

I don't know about you guys, but a smartwatch seems something completely unnecessary for me. What is it supposed to do that my iPhone doesn't already do better? Unless Apple comes out with something great, I don't see why I should even consider this.

What is the whole point of an iWatch anyway? Is it Apple releasing it just because other companies are making their own smartwatches? I fail to see why an iWatch is something necessary and how it would fill a supposed gap in Apple's line-up.

Impossible to judge a price point without knowing the device

I've been following the rumor stories since the beginning and after all the speculation about the iWatch about the 10 different sensors, groundbreaking design, homekit integration and so on, I was kind of expecting it to be launched at 399$.

That said, it's still a price point based on rumors. We can only judge how good the price is when we will see the design and function of it.

Still, even if it will be a revolutionary device like the iPhone and iPad have been, there will still be people complaining about it being "priced too high for what it is". Those will largely be the people that won't immediately grasp the potential of the device or that simply hate Apple for whatever reason.

For those who are going to complain anyway... Do you really want to sound like this guy? http://youtube.com/watch?v=eywi0h_Y5_U

Wow, that is $400 more than I am willing to spend. Same goes with beats crap. :)
Just over price things. Beats leagacy harming Apple.

One more device to charge!

Too many devices now a days! Phone, Tablet, Notebook(Dongle), iWatch, Bluetooth Head Set......how many SIM card we need to have and how many batteries we need to ensure working before we head someplace? How many plans to manage! I am seriously doubting whether these wearable devices can be of any help unless it completely removes the needs of one or more devices!

Mobile technology becoming complicated!!!!

Not really, if they price it above the majority of peoples expectations, then it will flop, nothing moronic about it.

You (somehow) misunderstand....
I'm not saying that if it was priced above REASONABLE expectations that it would not flop; what I'm saying is moronic is the notion that the majority of the people here believe that it will do FAR more than a Samsung Galaxy watch, will look far classier, they know for certain it took much longer to develop, that Apple hired scores of new employees to work on this.... & knowing that Samsung is making a slim profit margin on what we all assume to be an inferior product sold at $300, STILL "expect" Apple to sell theirs at $199.

Yes!!!!!! That is DEFINITELY a moronic expectation.

If all luxury cars of a certain caliber were selling for $100k & a new model was supposed to be coming out with more horsepower, better looks, a higher speed, a number of unique new technologies, a company behind it known for much more high quality parts & service, a better worldwide distribution model, & it had been hyped up more than any other automobile launch of all time..... would you REALISTICALLY assume that it would sell for $66k???????!!!!!

Holy crap. 17 pages of nonsense about a product that isn't even proven to be real with a price that isn't even confirmed, on a product that isn't even proven to be real.

dang, i think id max out at 300, but we will see what is announced first.

A lot of people will say they won't pay a high price for it now. Then when Apple announces everything this incredible new device can do, we'll all pay almost any price to have one. I'm pretty sure I'm buying one and I don't even know the actual price or capabilities yet. When has Apple ever disappointed us with a new product?

You remember when apple floated rumors that the ipad would be $1000 and it ended up being $500?

While Apple rarely bring out disappointing new products they do occasionally misgauge the initial pricing and have to make adjustments to improve sales as in the cases of the first iPhone and 13" MacBook Pro retina.

Lol, soooooo you can buy 2 separate, much larger products that replace the functionality of 3 or 4 of the 10 rumored sensors for around $200, but you'd expect to pay a max of $250 for a product minuturizing them & fitting them into a single package AND in your mind that built in a price premium????!
Wow. *shakes head* I thought you guys were supposed to be more educated than Americans... *sigh*
If you're going to play the "add up costs of other products" game, please add a list of products containing the remaining sensors, then list total cost with a photo of all those products in a big pile & pose the question to readers "wouldn't you rather pay for & manage all these products bought from separate vendors & hope they all update harmoniously and work together well for the lifetime of each one, than get one product that can do it all???" See if you have any takers... =P

Either way the iWatch is no sale for me - I got a watch build-in to the phone ... its been like over 6 years now .. that i haven't worn a "watch" on my wrist. I have my phone on me ..

Watches make no sense to me. Just as easy to pull a phone out and check the time. And why spend a lot of money on something that basically does one thing? Up until smart watches, at least.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of fitness related hype around the iwatch, and I expect it to be primarily a sports device, given the recent fitness related ads currently being run by apple, and the fact it was supposedly tested by athletes in development. So I would say the point is to help with exercise and monitoring health primarily. A new area for apple for sure, not so much filling a hole as entering a new market, which is surely a good thing

A range implies that there is a lower number and a higher number. Unless my eyes are failing me, there is only one number mentioned in the article.

The term 'rough price point' implies it's around $400. Not exactly $400. It's standard language when an exact range isn't known. Read it as '$400ish'.

I think there are some here who believe Apple should throw one in with every purchase of an iPhone 6 - 5.5 sapphire OR an iPad Pro.

...
$400 isn't a lot for a jewelry type watch
But it is the high end for a GPS running watch like the Garmin FR620.
I think Apple can make a better looking and functioning watch than Garmin, the current leader in such watches, so the $400 could be justified.....

I take issue that Garmin is the leader in this area. The best wrist mounted watch-like devices are made by Suunto. People will pay quite a lot for a Suunto device. Especially the very specialized ones like dive computers. They are well made.

As a company Apple is much more like Suunto than Garmin.

I can buy a Tissot for that amount... I would of payed $200 for the gimmick, $400 though thank Cook can kiss my ass

But I don't think this is true... It would be wise if apple undercut Samsung in the market

Apple undercuts these also-rans with new product paradigms, not prices. If Apple focused on coming out with copycat products at average prices, they'd be just like everyone else.
