Kinda surprised everybody is raging about this possible price…

When you walk in the store to buy a decent 'classic' watch from a respectable brand, you're easily spending 200 bucks or more.
So when you consider the added features of a smartwatch + the fact for example that the Motorola 360 already will cost you 250 at least + most likely 'the Apple premium', 400 looks like a logical price for an iWatch.

the last two watches i purchased were both in the $500+ range. I miss wearing a watch at times, haven't worn one for several years now. Once their batteries died i just didn't feel like forking over money to have the batteries replaced since my iphone had the time on it, and i seem to be surrounded by clocks at work, in my car, etc.

I will pay $400+ for an apple watch, though, if it is:

1. Easily rechargeable. I don't want to have to carry around special transformers and cables. If it comes with a "nighttime" inductive charger pad to rest the watch on at night while i sleep then i'll be ok with it. And the battery lupine had better not require nightly charging!

2. Waterproof. I don't mean as in a diver's watch, but capable of not having to be removed during a shower or being hit by an unexpected rainstorm.

3. Attractive as a watch. I think fitbits look dorky and kind of silly for me. I don't wear bracelets, livestrong bands, or any other such accessories. I want my watch to say "watch"!

4. A watch i can tell time with at a glance, with a customizable watchface.

5. An extension of the apple ecosystem, to enhance the use and give increased functionality of my other apple devices, ideally serving as a siri/security conduit between my iphone, ipad and apple tv.

+1

Shut up and don't take my money.

$400 dollars seriously? That's the price of a phone. Hoping this is bit true

Sure Why Not - Made Out of Money

$800 Phone paired with a $400 watch that only works with said $800 phone. Sure, why not Apple users are made out of money! Don''t get me started on $2,000 laptops that only have 500GB HDs and 8 GBs of memory!

$400 seems reasonable, the new Polar V800 is $470 without heart rate sensor and I bought it the day it was released. http://www.polarv800.com/

I'd like it to replace my MedicAlert bracelet too, but I'm not getting rid of it.

My MedicAlert bracelet is waterproof to the bottom of the ocean, and is readable by those that can read English (American).

However, a smart watch will be able to tell more than just that I am diabetic to the first responders. I'd like it to have:

A protocol that can be read by Fire/Police Departments, so that if I am passed out, they won't think I am drunk.
A "find my iWatch" type functionality
A "lock feature" to keep stolen ones from being usable.

This will be the first giant post-Jobs Apple flop. Managers like Cook are great CEOs but they tend to get caught up in trendy hype.

Wearable are just unnecessary and after the initial flood of early adopters they will fade fast. I use an iPad and iPhone every day. Changed the way I work and communicate with pts and look up data. The market for an iWatch is smaller than the Apple TV hobby.

Still think the sweet-spot is a lower priced Apple version of FitBit on steroids in the $179-$199 range. $400 for an Apple branded wearable is way too much. But does make me think maybe there is a wearable version sub $200 and some partnering with watch companies in the $400 range. Two completely different wearable product lines ( Fitbit and Watches). Plenty of people who wear watches would pay $400 for their favorite watch brand Apple wearable ( although I still think any sort of watch is more of a niche product). You sell the sub $200 bracelet to the masses and offer a higher end niche watch like product $400 and up to the watch fans. Win. Win.

Funny isn;t it.

We seem to have half the people saying wow this is too expensive can get a nice watch that won't depreciate like crazy over a couple of years for this price.

then we have the others (the ones we'd rather not admit are around) that actually want it to be this much or even more so they can think people will look up and be impressed when they show of the expensive watch they think others can't afford.

Remember one thing, Apple does not make things, other do for Apple.
So Either Samsung or LG, anyone else? Must know the state of affairs as they will be selling their screen tech to Apple in the size Apple as asking for.

Still won't surprise me, if it's nothing like a smart watch and just a fitness tracker band, with perhaps a very small display and that's it.

Simply to put the health app side, and to sell as something to wear alongside your real watch, on the other arm perhaps?

pay 400$ so you can be tracked everywhere you go :) ...

Apple doesn't track you.

I'm just gonna keep this here for posterity. And so I can go back and laugh at it in 5 years. It may certainly flop, but if you doubt Apple, you will be wrong most of the time.

If it were to replace the ipods, but with health sensors and the abilities to wirelessly communicate with other devices? Hmm...

For most of the buying public, the price of an iPhone is $200+. Asking double that for a wearable isn't going to fly.

You might be right.

Although in other nations, phone companies do not use subsidy model.

I think you are way to hard on the iWatch, depending on what it can do, I am in,if not I'll wait for the second or third iteration, this has, depending on functionality,
To be HUGE, don't throw the baby out with the bath water here, this can rise to greatness, come on, this is:apple:, let them progress with it will be amazing

I would be surprised if it is this low. I was thinking they might do a low-end model for around $499 and a higher-end model for around $799.

Think about it - I very much doubt it will just be an iPod nano-type device you can strap on. From everything we have heard, it will include several medical sensors, integration with the iPhone, potentially sapphire glass face, etc.

It *won't* be $199 LOL

iWatch apps? What makes you think the iWatch will have apps?

iWatch already has apps such as iHealth. Any app for the iPhone based on health, status updates or exercise will work with iWatch presumably. iWatch is supposed to run iOS so why not?

What makes you think that? You don't value the classics? I got my mom's old beetle from the 60's for my 16th birthday. Still have it. Coolest car ever, especially because it was her first car and it's been in the family. Sure it doesn't have bluetooth, a backup camera, all wheel drive, or even power steering, but none of that ever mattered.

Not everything is about being on the bleeding edge. I have yet to be explained why I would even want the internet on my wrist. Maybe Apple will explain that to me.

I would almost go so far as to say anyone posting in MacRumors that's not into the bleeding edge should have their internet card revoked. Isn't that what every Mac rumor is about after all?

But in answer to your question, I guess I don't value the classics unless they are purely form and not function. Old cars run loud, inefficient and miss the best features of any modern car - cup holders, Bluetooth and USB port for charging my iPhone. Vinyl sounds awful (unless you're into snap, crackle and pop) and especially inconvenient. Old computers are well...old. Do you run Classic Amiga, Atari or Apple from decades past because they are classics?

Confirmed suspicions

This article has confirmed my suspicions, I am sure I am not the first to figure this out though.

With the "Top secret" building being built next to the building Steve Jobs introduced the first Mac in, Apple is obviously planning a giant release. At first I though that this will obviously be the iPhone, but when you think about it, there are no huge upgrades to the 6 that have been reported, a new processor, bigger screen, sure they are upgrades but not huge upgrades.

The iWatch I do not think will merely be sold as an accessory for the iPhone 6, it will be it's own category. Because it is Apple it will closely tie in with the rest of the Apple products, but it will be Apple's next "revolutionary" product. Considering that we have not seen a single image of a concept design or leaked part this is a top secret thing that Apple is handling either on campus or on a top secret room in Foxconn. The iWatch is what the accessories will be made for, not the other way around.

Unless of course... they release something that has never even been rumored...
