how convenient hahaha
and then they work on crap like genmoji

Sour grapes. 'Apple's research team'? Shouldn't they be working to improve things instead of attacking successful companies.
And they spent resources to prove something obvious?
And the timing of this. My goodness.
ChatGPT has completely changed my work flow and eliminated my need for junior employees & outsourcing some key elements in my work.
Sure, but that doesn’t make it true that LLMs are useless. And I have to compete in the world that exists. And the world that exists means I can be more productive with less expense. I simply can’t go backwards.Sweet

Can you at least understand why that's not exciting to everyone?

I actually agree with this. And I’m actively working on a philosophical/political project to make a difference regarding this. I just published my first book on the topic. But I still exist in the world as it is today.I wonder if humans will ever have "enough rate of progress"?
(note, I didn't say enough progress ... just enough rate of it)
I'm always thinking to myself ... will we ever get to "relax a bit" or will there be a future of working every single day to constantly make "more" ... to "buy more", I guess?
None of it maps to a great, healthy, happy life.
It just makes rich people richer.
Tools displacing work of real people just makes it even worse, not better, as the overlords are marketing to everyone.
Lots of bad takes in these comments by people who clearly have never worked in AI or *with* (to a great extent) AI and who are repeating (ironically!) what they've heard from others and from the parts of the media who also don't understand. Your own (wet) neural network is as much a prediction engine as an LLM is. They are NOT just doing statistics on next-word. They are very high-dimensional neural networks that currently implement *some* brain-like features and that haven't fully caught up to us. YET. All this "AI is fake", "LLMs don't think at all", "They're just programmed" stuff is ignorance.
For the record: I have worked both with and on AI systems. Professionally.
Indirectly. They aren't attacking companies directly, but their work, which is the same thing.Which companies did Apple attack?
It's not a matter of opinion. You're simply ignorant on the subject matter. You don't have to be.Ok -- sure.
I always love the "you don't get it" attempt to gotcha everyone who disagrees.
I have many years of experience working with PhD CS Researchers in a professional capacity and have managed millions of dollars in autonomic / genetic and agentic academic and government research. I saw deterministic implementations of technology that behaved similar to LLMs years before the public knew about transformers.Lots of bad takes in these comments by people who clearly have never worked in AI or *with* (to a great extent) AI and who are repeating (ironically!) what they've heard from others and from the parts of the media who also don't understand. The technology is still useful as long as you understand the limits, but not implicitly to a scale that we’re being sold.
It is. I thought it's rather obvious. So AI is nothing more than clever programing?
Indirectly. They aren't attacking companies directly, but their work, which is the same thing.
This whole things is sadly obvious. Attack the competitor just before you release your new version. Well, I suppose that's standard company procedure. Show people that the 'other guy's' work is just 'smoke and mirrors'.
