The sandbags I get, but what help does a bit of tape on the windows provide?

I live in Florida (mostly) so I've been through quite a few hurricanes. There is a common misconception that putting tape on your windows somehow helps prevent damage from flying objects but it is absolutely not true. Every time there's a storm they tell us on TV not to do that. It's just a waste of time. Shutters, plywood, or nothing.

Go back to the dark corners of the internet that you came from. The article focuses on three main points. One of those happens to be the new store design. All he was doing was saying how much he likes the new store design and remembering back to a time when us mac geeks had no "home."

lol don't forget about that lawsuit of the woman suing apple for like a billion dollars claiming she broke her noise from walking into the glass.

possibly the lamest correlation i've heard yet. keep trying though.

OMG thank you so much Apple!! I stopped going to Apple Stores because the crowds are so uncivilized.

Not going to alleviate loads on the IFC store- Apple don't sell many of their latest products in China until way after international launch for some reason (regulatory/certification issues?) so all the mainlanders have to come down to HK to get their Apple fix.

They'd all just order from store.apple.com/cn if the Chinese online store offered the iPhone 5 or new iPads at launch, but they don't, and nor will the new Shenzhen Apple Store.

That'd be somewhat believable if there were no jab at 'Microsoft/Windows fanboys' in his post.

What are you, some kind of troll?

Good grief!

The question really ought to be asked the other way around.

Each pane of glass is big, so it is likely to be laminated glass (two sheets of glass bonded to a sheet of plastic), just like your car windscreen.

The tape is there just like the big chalk X that glaziers scribble on glass sheets being transported and fitted -- to tell whether there are any cracks or breaks in the glass.

In fitted glass, where there is the danger of breakage, blue masking tape is used to indicate the presence of glass.

It has nothing to do with trying to hold the glass together.

Who are you a vendor for? I'll be sure never to buy any of your products.

Really? Taped Windows? - Can anyone tell me what protective use have tape against 90mph sustained winds?

Lol thank you. I really am not trolling, I truly dont understand what the little sneak jab at Microsoft had to do with an apple store and Hurricane Sandy. My fault for thinking different on this site

Honest question - what is the purpose of the taped windows?

- West coast resident who has never experienced a truly severe storm

The photo of the Palo Alto store is beautiful.

Yes, stunningly so!

It's to stop OAP's walking into the glass, thinking it's a doorway.:p

Or Hemophiliacs.

MS opened 30 kiosk stores on Friday around the US and Canada. They will sell the Surface and Win8. Based on this YouTube video from a kiosk in Vancouver, there were drawings for free Xbox consoles and only a small number of people in attendance to win them. I'm going to check out the local MS kiosk store later this week.

I wish them well, and will check out the SURFACE, but this site is, as I'm sure you know, called 'MAC' Rumors.

.....His post is about how far apple has come. The article is about the opening of 2 Apple stores with a little tie in about the hurricane preparation of Apple stores on the east coast. Who cares how he "spins it." Apple HAS come far. Even in consumer perception......The same is true in what you quoted. Apple has gone from being a 3 foot display in the corner of CompUSA (remember that place?!?) to having stores with insane traffic that make more money per square foot than any other retailer. His comments were VERY relevant to the article!

Agreed, it says 'APPLE RETAIL ROUNDUP' right in the title of the post.

The wannabe looters will be watch that store very closely.

Sad to see humanity's dark side, at a time when we're most vulnerable.

LOL you call that thinking different?

Personally I hate going to the Apple stores.

Not so much of customer service - although no one really approaches you and acts like they are doing something when they really aren't - but for the lingerers that play with Apple products all day, knowing they have the same products at home. Gosh.

I'm not worried. Your posts make you sound extremely immature (esp. the gem above... "Lol all hail the king of macrumors!!! LOL LOL LOL") so I doubt you're in my target market ;)

In case you're wondering, I am a vendor for Apple products. Please remember to never buy Apple products.

LOL you call that thinking different?

Unfortunately it does seem that not bashing Microsoft in a post about Apple is thinking different on this forum. It shouldn't be that way, but what can you do?

It's okay. I prefer to buy direct from apple ;)

Let me get this straight, America's east coast is getting slammed by a once in a lifetime weather event and ppl are on here going on about tape and a handful of retail stores?? There has been an almost unfathomable amount of damage and even worse, the loss of human life. I know it's an Apple site but seriously??

Glad to see that even Apple still believes in that stupid old taping the windows myth... Emergency management officials stopped recommending that in the early 80's.
