So is this only good for Sprint or will they discount an AT&T phone too? I have a coworker that is interested in getting a 4S and may prefer to pay an extra $50 now to have 16GB instead of 8 in a month or two, assuming they do the same as past years.

What network? What do you get for $23/month?

$23 for almost no minutes and no data? Sounds like a rip-off to me.

This is pretty unfair on all those stores hawking your wares. With all these recent changes coming around, I can see Apple on a downward spiral. These are the golden years for Apple. The goose is being strangled for all it's worth. There won't be anything left after a couple of years.

Wait for it

Still better to wait till the new iPhone is released, then buy the 4S. Much better pricing after the fact. ;)

Thanks Nostradamus.

You sound like all those people who predicted the demise of Apple 20 years ago, and 15 years ago, and 10, and 5. You know, before they become one of the largest, most profitable, most valuable companies in the world, with record growth, and over 100 billion in the bank.

But yeah, you're right, I'm sure they won't be around in a few years.

Can I go to an apple store and get a Verizon 4s for $149 or is the match only for sprint iPhones?

Especially when you can get "unlimited" voice, text and data from Straight-Talk Wireless for $45/month.

Yes, it makes perfect sense that they are price matching iPhones from other stores because of Android...

No, no, no... it's the "Windows Phone Effect". Obviously.

So you're asking them to price-match $150 to a store that sells them for $200? If you'll refer to the leaked document, I think you can see that the answer is a negative.

voice mail
call display

isnt that basically standard on any phone? call display ... my nokia from 2001 did that already

minutes on the other hand i understand, i have 120 minutes per month and i use NONE lol since i got my iPhone 4S last december i didnt use a total of more than 2hours

This.

Will Apple be around in years to come? Yes. Will they always be top dog? No. No one stays on top forever.

They have the highest subsidies of any phone which does in fact make them responsible for the recent increases in price in cell phone prices in the US.

Cell phone plan prices have been largely stagnant since the iPhone launched in 2007. The only major increase carriers have done is to up ETF fees. They've dropped unlimited data plans, but those are pretty much the same cost when you substitute 2-4GB plans.

You could argue that Apple lowering their subsidy requirement would allow carriers to reduce prices, but why would they unless forced? They were that high in 2007 when the iphone came around in the first place. And they remain competitive in European markets despite the existence of the iPhone. The carriers are the problem here.
