Our VMWare rep always pointed out the fact that Virtuozzo is based out of Russia

I remember using Parallels on OS/2 (eComStation) before it changed its name to Parallels. It is pretty much Russian software created by Russians and started because a Moscow bank needed to run legacy OS/2 banking software on newer hardware so it commissioned what became Parallels to write the software after VMWare abandoned OS/2 support.

Was eComStation the old name for Parallels? I always thought it was American software. I never realised it was Russian. I don't have a problem with that though. My parents use a Russian antivirus (Kaspersky) on their Windoze 7 laptops.

We run Parallel's Virtuozzo in one of the largest Govt agencies for server virtualization as well as VMWare. Virtuozzo is much faster but we are phasing it out for VMWare. Our VMWare rep always pointed out the fact that Virtuozzo is based out of Russia

TBH I would prefer Virtuozzo. It was certainly not based out of Russia but was developed by SWsoft Inc, who at the time were based in Herndon VI. They changed their name to Parallels Inc and are now based in Renton, WA.

So no they are very much USA based.

EDIT: just noted their R&D is done in Russia. IMO who cares.

eComStation is a later (post IBM) version of OS/2. In a way I am always saddened that OS/2 didn't succeed. It had the potential to be world class.

eComStation is the name of the licensed version of OS/2 that is still developed by a third party

The old name of Parallels was SVISTA based on TwoOStwo
