Apple recently warned technical support staff at its retail stores that replacement iPhones are in short supply, reports Bloomberg.

Replacement iPhones for heavily damaged devices are expected to face supply constraints for two to four weeks. Apple Store employees have been informed that they can mail replacement iPhones to customers and provide loaner devices to ease wait times.

Apple did not provide employees with specific details as to the cause of the shortage, but the supply constraints are likely linked to production delays caused by the coronavirus. Retail employees also told Bloomberg that some stores are noticing a shortage of individual components used for device repairs.

Apple suppliers like Foxconn and Pegatron were forced to shut down for two or more weeks in February at the height of the coronavirus outbreak in China. Factories are back up and running at this time, but production has still not ramped up to normal levels due to labor shortages, travel restrictions, and other factors.

Foxconn, Apple's main iPhone assembler, expects its plants in China to resume normal operation by the end of March. The delays are beginning to affect some product lines, with build-to-order Macs, the Mac Pro, and the iPad Pro seeing supply shortages, and it remains to be seen how new devices expected to launch early in the year will fare in terms of available supply.

Weighing my options before I take my 2017 12.9” iPad Pro in to the Store. It developed a dark line across the screen that won’t go away and flickers unless I am scrolling. I’m guessing they’ll send it to depot, because I’m pretty sure they don’t have any 512Gb Wi-Fi replacement models just hanging around.

Maybe in Spring?

Unfortunately it isn't spring all over the worth at the same time. The weather is opposite in the northern and Southern Hemispheres. Summer here winter there. This virus isn't going to stop because of spring in the States.

That's an assumption based on seasonal flu, there's no evidence to think this will decline with the end of the flu season - SARS didn't.
Correct, especially since April isn't spring in every many countries.

That's another reason why you should be able to repair locally rather than doing an exchange. Quite frankly, even on an iPhone repairs are not that big of a deal. There many untrained phone repair shops who do it with 3rd party parts (and often sloppy). But they do it immediately and usually never costs more than 200 after aftermarket prices stabilized -that's already including parts.
How come Apple needs to send those out, problably to Asia, for repairs? I know that shipping is cheap, but the saving can't be that high.

WHEN WILL THIS FREAKING VIRUS DIE OFF!!!
No one knows. That's the only fact right now. Everything else is speculation.

I don't understand why APPLE does not get their manufacturing out of china???
China is corrupt
The government lies and cant be trusted
It's a dictatorship that cares nothing about human rights.
they steal American technology for themselves

I guess Tim Cook will have to learn the hard way and not take advise from his own top apple execs to get out of China
