Thats good selective process....

Just go with Gmail or get a vanity domain.

Why would you want an email address that screams "I am one of the sheep"?

We've trashed job applicants because of "mac.com" or "me.com" email addresses.

Wow you trash an applicant based on their email domain, wow that's disgusting. I wonder how many applicant get through by updating their facebook status

Where an applicant chooses to get their mail from should never be used to judge their ability to perform a job function - disgusted:mad:

Considering that our division does Windows and *nix software, it doesn't help a borderline resume to see an Apple domain at the top.

If the candidate is well-qualified, it won't matter.

That is the stupidest reasoning i have ever heard for making such a decision.

That is a stupid reason. It should not matter at all what email service provider someone uses. The email provider they use should not have ANY bearing on whether or not they get hired.

I seriously feel bad for people who apply for work with you, as they are being judged on such petty things.

If you have a thousand resumés for one job, you need to discard 990 of them to get the 10 candidates to interview, you consider all the factors.

And if the position is software development for non-Apple systems, people paying for their "Apple badge" on their email address can reasonably be assumed to not fully embrace other platforms. (And, as I said, for a strong resumé the email would be irrlevant.)

Everything that you do online is part of your persona that recruiters look at. Tons of Facebook pages of drunken parties are obviously a big negative, and even email providers that sometimes hint a smug superiority can damage your chances if the job has nothing to do with Apple.

Since Apple notebooks are not supported by our company - why even consider someone who might whine because we gave them a ThinkPad?

And, as I said, if the candidate is well-qualified, the email provider will not matter.

(and usually, the well-qualified candidates have vanity domains or simply use one of the free services (hotmail/yahoo/gmail))

...and your saying a gmail address is more professional? this must be a joke!

So here is a question. Before I saw this I decided to try to claim my first and last name when setting up a new iCloud account. I saw the new iCloud domain and thought hey maybe my name has opened up. Sure enough it let me register it even though it was already taken in the me.com domain. After I read the article, I went back and tested out my other me.com address to see if that would be accepted to but it said it was already taken when trying to register it for iCloud.com. So now it say my new iCloud account has the wrong username and password even though when I reenter the fields with my information it is accepted. So either I have claimed an e-mail address on accident, it's been recycled, or the iCloud.com domain isn't active for mail yet. Or they aren't sending duplicate addresses. Ideas? Thoughts?

It gets worse every time.

@mac > @me >@icloud

What's next? @applesicloudinthesky

Let us start getting @mac again. :(

Just because someone uses Apple products doesn't mean he'll make a fuss if you give him a Windows / Linux computer. You call people buying Apple-stuff 'sheep', yet you're falling for a stupid anti-hype.

If I would find out that my staff department would reject job applicants because of their MAIL ADDRESS DOMAIN, I'd fire them instantly!

This is the stupidest **** I read in my entire life.

Big whoop...

Oh no! Holy crap!!

"iCloud" is 3X longer than "me"! It's gonna take me 3X longer to type in the extra 4 letters!!

I mean, usually you only type in an email once into your contacts app and then forget about it thanks to Autofill.
But in the event that you need to add in a contact, which realistically is very seldom, it will take me 3X longer!!!
NO ONE CAN AFFORD TO WASTE 0.5s!!!

Com'on Apple! God dammit...

***

Anyways, sarcasm aside, me.com sounds stupid and doesn't make any sense to the general public unless you're at least somewhat familiar with Apple and its former cloud services.

iCloud.com is much more inline with their brand and corporate image than me.com.

It takes 3X longer to type in. Big whoop... get over it.

Based on the reasoning I see of emails, I have a feeling you ask for their astrological sign as well to determine their personality and how it will fit into the group dynamic.

Yes, I consider all factors regarding their QUALIFICATION for the job! I'd look at how many languages they speak, if they have experience with a certain programmng language or software we use or anything else that makes them stand out.

Really? Only because I may have once gotten an iPhone or iPad and have conviently used the included, free iCloud mail service disqualifies me as an Android or Windows developer? So with the same reasoning somebody with a Gmail address can't possibly qualify as an Android developer? And Hotmailers would NEVER be good Linux coders right?

Wow, I don't know where you live, but in my country this would be SO illegal. What a person does in private live is of no interest to the employer!

Since Apple notebooks are not supported by our company - why even consider someone who might whine because we gave them a ThinkPad?

REALLY? Are you serious? At my last company we bought everything from Dell, so you're suggesting that somebody with another laptop brand should better not even show up?

And, as I said, if the candidate is well-qualified, the email provider will not matter.

So having my own domain for my mail makes me 'professional'? What was that with smug superiority a few sentences above? Oh, and iCloud also is a free service!

Just logged into my beta.icloud.com account which now shows beta on it.

Just to clarify, I signed in with my normal username you use for iclould, then in preference it shows me,mac and iclould extensions under accounts (they are not set as one of your alias). Any mail sent to and from any of those extensions all end up in the same sent/in box.

You can select on icloud.com(beta) and on iOS6 what extension you want to send from....

So you can continue to use EITHER your .mac, .me or iCloud.com

I've tried that but it isn't listing any iCloud extensions for my username.
Is your username@me.com reserved automatically for @icloud.com?

If so it isn't showing.

Thanks.

Get Real Apple

What is your problem? Can't you ever leave well enough alone? Do you know how many thousands and thousands of customers you're going to really tick off? @icloud? Who wants to type @icloud instead of @me or @mac? Not I, that's for sure. And I suppose now every purchase made using @me.com will no longer be available to people with @icloud.com accounts.

Apple is great at developing new and wonderful products, but when it comes to thinking about the simple things, they really, really suck! I'll bet Jobs is rolling over in his grave with this latest joke!

2nd that. I'm not seeing it on beta.icloud.com however, I did not that it says 0 aliases available. Do you need free aliases or will apple add icloud to the list of domains like in the past?

CAN'T YOU PEOPLE READ!?

You're the maybe 100th person in this forum complaining how Apple sucks and how they will leave Apple when they loose their @me.com address, despite Apple clearly stating that the @me.com addreses will NOT be removed.

Did you all get it now: YOU'LL ALL KEEP YOUR @ME.COM ADDRESSES!

Please can you at least read the article before you start commenting and ask stupid questions that are already answered in the article itself!

Calm down you drama queen.

For some reason I have access to the email address itself (like the ID is still valid) but I can't send or receive email from it.

If it works to send/receive online, maybe it's a problem with your client settings. As I say, mine has worked. I use an alias ending in mac.com for nearly all my personal email.

While I think the @mac.com and @me.com addresses are perfectly fine and more preferred here, I still would like to get an @icloud.com alias setup. Wondering if that option will go live tomorrow when Mountain Lion goes live.

Oh, you provide ThinkPads? Please return my application to me. I don't want to work for a company that buys such overpriced crap.

(and usually, the well-qualified candidates have vanity domains or simply use one of the free services (hotmail/yahoo/gmail))

hotmail and yahoo accounts are what make me consider kicking applicants to the curb. How can anyone in IT use that garbage?

So... I have read but haven't worked it out...

Apple opened icloud, got everyone to sign up using @me.com

... now they are telling us to move to @icloud.com right? Right.

But, come iOS 6 we will be able to move our @me.com to @icloud.com? So do they reserve out current @me and replace that with @icloud on our request with iOS 6?

Or is there a chance my @icloud email i want (my name) will be gone like when i made the @me?
