Actually the iPhone 5 prototype was stolen by Samsung that had the original 4.8 inch display, Which Sammy was sued for last year.

4.8 inch was the iPhone 5. The current iPhone 5 would not have happened if Steve Jobs was alive.

I think if steve were still Alive, we would still have a 3.5" screen ;)

Well, it looks like you, Tracy and I are all in the same boat.

That's ********** funny man! Hahaha

I bet it should be MAX.. not strange compared to the iPad Mini.
And seeing how some stuff are translated from Chinese phonetically..

Sorry, but you make NO sense. Apple has already saturated the market for the smartphone. They NEED to hit the phablet space to continue their growth.

What exactly do you base this on? They don't NEED to do anything. Your "NEED" for a larger display doesn't constitute as something that is a necessity to Apple.

May b Tim wanted to take a voting from macrumors members and just leaked out something about bigger screen.. Seems like more votes are in favor of large screen ;)

It could look something like this:

No, just no. No no no no no, NO. Buy an android device, please. Stop making it sound like bigger screens are a necessity. THEY are not. this is simply a matter of taste. If you want a bigger screen, buy a phone with a bigger screen. This does not mean apple has to do the same, and I hope to god they don't.

Why do you care? Why can't apple make two iphone sizes. Literally every product they sell has two screen sizes. Why not the iPhone?

Macbook Pro 13/15
Macbook Air 11/13
iMac 21.5/27
iPad 7.85/10

Noooooooooo!! They should just leave the 4.8 screen alone. I still have my 4s and I'm very happy with it. If people want something bigger get an iPad and that solves your problem. Who in the world wants to have a big phone like that on their ear.

I'll refer you to what I said earlier in the thread:

It's simple you see now, we have both apps working across both screen resolutions of the iPhone. What I absolute and positively do not want is having apps being created seperately for the iPhone's platform. I don't know what it's like now, but are you obligated to develop an app for anything of lower resolution than the iPhone 5? ie.: I made an iPhone 5 resolution app, do I have to make it iPhone 4S and 4 compatible?

I can only imagine that with this new iPhone "Math" another set of different apps is going to be made and sooner or later you won't be able to download apps anymore friends are telling you about or some apps you may find useful.
When iPad came out I struggled to download apps both on iPad and iPhone in the beginning, I don't wanna go through that with iPhone, between me and my girlfriend.
This is one of me main reasons I am with apple in the first place.

That's what Bluetooth is for. :)

My need? How about addressing the needs of tens of millions who bought the Samsung Note 3 and are now looking forward to Note 4? This is a market worth going after. Shareholders should insist on it. Phablet buyers should not have to leave the Apple ecosystem and look elsewhere.

Lately Apple's product design seems to be driven by it's supply chain and not the other way around.

The actual percentage of regular people who want a larger iPhone screen is really small. It feels like it's larger when you browse this forum, but that's because tech nerds like us are more likely to want a larger screen and love to complain on the internet about not having it. The millions upon millions of people who are perfectly satisfied with the iPhone screen aren't posting here.

Really the note 3 huh? tens of millions? you might wanna check your facts.

"An additional iPhone update is said to be coming during the holiday season, with a 12-megapixel camera".

Please send me a bag of what these guys smoke over there

They're on math.

I've only seen one person in my whole life with one of those huge phones / tiny tablets. It would ruin Apple's image to make something that's a bad tablet and an even worse phone.

I have never bought an iPhone yet!

My reason was the screen is way too small. When iPhone 5 came out, i still found it way to small, I am 26 years old, there is nothing wrong with bigger, i have great eyes, and would like to keep it that way.

I think apple will sell in the 100's of millions no doubt.

This is the first good rumour i have heard yet, everyone i know will buy the bigger screen.

Good year.

Peace

No reason why Apple can't have multiple device screen sizes for various users

Not that hard really

They'll end up like the "other" companies who make stuff like the Droid RAZR MAXX and Galaxy SIII. Apple is about simplicity. I don't want to see the iPhone 5S come out with an iPhone XL or 5XL or whatever.

Do you have really big pockets or something? I always make sure my pants have big pockets, and I don't think any of mine would hold one of those giant phones.

I would say with the way iOS handles different resolutions its probably for the best that they don't introduce a bigger model. Also loving that people think bigger screens are a trend as apposed to the actual touch screen phone itself.

Samsung capitalized on Nokia's foolish decision to Osborne all their devices 2 years ago. Nokia, like Samsung, was a company that attempted to appeal to everyone with dozens of phones. They took the approach of throwing as much spaghetti on the wall as possible and seeing what would stick. As far as I'm concerned, let them. That isn't a winning strategy for Apple. That's what Sculley, Spindler, and Amelio did.

And here i thought it was because they failed to keep up with ongoing trends and thought churning out hardware with carl zeiss optics will keep them on top. Then when they finally succumbed, they quarter arsed it by tacking a touch interface on a OS that wasn't built for it putting aside that their Symbian OS had grown stale, buggy and very few developers outside gaming had any interest in the platform.

If its market saturation then why are they still dominating when it comes to dumbphones?

I really, really really really hope apple, doesn't catter to this supposed "demand" for a larger screen. It's completely blown out of proportion by now.

But there is a way out for them, might require some significant legwork on their part though.
They must some how make the screen edge to edge on all sides.
So mic along the bottom corner/edge. Speaker along the top corner/edge. No physical, or a relocated home button.
But the front facing cam will be a challenge admittedly.
They can go to 120mm by about 70mm. TIM ARE YOU LISTENING?

I hear ya.

On the other hand... every time someone purchases a phone larger than 4" then the demand is there.

The HTC HD2 was the first 4.3" phone... and it came out in 2009.

The HTC Evo and Motorola Droid X came out in 2010... and countless other "large-screened" phones have come out since then.

In fact... most flagship phones today are well beyond 4"

There must be something to that.

It's the user base (Android). I know a few people who have Android phones very well, and it's impossible to explain why in English, but they're all the kind of person who would buy a huge phone and would NOT use iOS. This is not an insult to them (if someone here interprets it as such).

Interestingly, if you know someone well, and you tell him to choose a random shape out of three options, you can guess much more than 1/3 the time what he is thinking of.
