A/R in cars is needed because it's way too dangerous to use my phone to chase pokemons while driving...
Kudos to Apple for helping me with my game and making the roads safer! ;)

It would be nice if Apple updates/tries to perfect their existing line of products before releasing a VR product or automobile.
I think they will update many if not most of their products before releasing an AR product or automobile. They won't perfect any of them, ever.

Then that AR product or automobile will become an existing line of products. And it will be nice when they update it as well.

But they will always be working on new things at the same time. I hope they never stop.

I think safe autonomous cars are a long way off... remember the guy who died in his Tesla by over relying on its assited steering.
I remember lots of people who died steering their own cars. Safe human-driven cars are an even longer way off.

I don't believe autonomous vehicles will ever become mainstream because most people will not feel sufficiently confident to let go of the steering wheel and let the car drive itself. People die every day on the roads and maybe statistically autonomous cars will be safer, but I would never trust the technology enough to let go of the steering wheel.
It's possible that you may never be comfortable enough to let go of the steering wheel. But any parent who moves to the back seat and lets a seventeen-year-old take the wheel is putting a lot of trust in a notoriously unreliable driver.

I think the changeover will be gradual. You'll order a Uber and a driverless car will take you where you want to go. It's a pre-set route, so maybe you'll trust it more than a car on random unfamiliar roads. Meanwhile, your cruise control and other sensors in your car will converge on autonomy, to the point where letting go of the wheel is a very small step, not a leap of faith.

In various ways, you will become more comfortable over time, just as other humans became comfortable with trains and autos and airplanes over time.

I have a '97 truck. I expect to get many more miles out of it. The only augmented reality I will see is because of the pock marked window shield.

So because some idiot killed himself with an assisted steering car that is not built to be autonomous, you conclude that safe autonomous cars are a long way off?

I heard someone in my city (of 4 million) was killed in a car accident last night. I guess safe cars are a long way off in general.

I see your point but I'm concerned since cell phone distraction while driving is epidemic I'm very worried that people will over-rely on the assisted steering in order to indulge their cell phone addiction which might end up being very dangerous. I actually remember when people paid attention to the road. On a road trip I made to Dallas TX there were literally 4 single car accidents on the interstate where people drove off the road because they were engrossed in their cell phone. It's absolutely ridiculous and it's a serious, deadly and growing problem everywhere. And just a couple years ago a lady rear ended my car because she was distracted on a cell phone. Maybe you'll be lucky and avoid the crazies out there but I predict at some point this will probably affect you directly or somebody you know.

I could see them replacing those fixed-function steering wheel controls with an oled strip...
