Why is removing real humans by Apple, the “intersection of technology and the HUMANities” company, embarassing? Is that what you’re asking?
Yes, when gen ai is “a thing” and companies are looking for innovative ways to exploit the technology.

The novelty will wear off. AI presenters are easily spotted because they speak with a consistent cadence as if no need to breath, never go um... no humor (version 10 may fix that), and perfect makeup.

Haven't they already been using an AI presenter?

I'm curious what tool/s they're using to generate their avatars: in-house or off-the-shelf?

We're using Synthesia to support our sales & product teams in a very similar way. Setting up an avatar is stupid easy; simply upload a quick selfie, read a canned script, and within a few minutes you have your very own avatar. The result is one part pretty impressive, all parts creepy af.

I was about to write something nasty, but if this is only for internal sales training, it kinda makes sense. I don't ever want to see this for public facing content though.

If done well great but I have yet to see corporate sales and support training that's delivery digitally that actually works. Given Apple's track record with using artificial intelligence in its consumer facing products wouldn't keep my hopes up.

I mean it's 2026 and Siri on HomePod is still incapable of doing something as simple as setting more than one timer. Half the time I get "setting 50 minute timer" when you asked for a 5 minute or worse the old "here is something I found on the web".

Definitely sounds creepy af.

It's the sort of thing I would have hoped Apple, of all companies, would simply never do.

Multi TRILLION dollar company won't even buck up for human talent?
The rational according to the article is not spending the money but the efficiency. But hey one can keep plodding along same as same as, or be brave and try something new.
Maybe the AVP sales issue prompted/fueled/influenced the decision to engage AI infused training? Just wondering if there is a connection, well speculating, as this matter comes back to mind …

MacRumors reported on April 7:
The book, Mutiny: The Rise and Revolt of the College-Educated Working Class, draws on interviews with Apple Store employees to document how staffing cuts, reduced training, and a shift toward aggressive sales metrics left Apple retail staff ill-equipped to demo the Vision Pro. …
