Ya know the whole reason for the side loading is to try and avoid the commission. The funny thing is developers are not going to be able to do this. Tim stated as a witness that “Apple would have to set up another way to get our commission when it doesn’t have to be this way etc”….in other words we are getting our commission one way or the other…..so a win would mean nothing. You’re still going to pay Epic.

Apple already said under oath in the Epic case that they don't want to allow sideloading and other app stores as it cuts into monetization.

The thing is. If Apple wouldn't be so strict about what they allow and what not, people might not want to sideload. But apple thinks they have the right to dictate what the user is allowed to install and what not.

Like: let Firefox run their own gecko engine. It's probably as secure if not more secure than Safari. And also respects privacy with much better plugins than what Safari could even dream of.

That's probably because they're almost 7 years old.....?
is that a valid reason? It plays mincraft quite well.

In my opinion, anyone saying "a device is too old and deserves no new software, even from owner himself" is effectivly supporting planned obsolescence.

Apple is still getting its commission people so stop wasting your time with all this side loading nonsense….”but wait I can side load now but I still have to pay the commission?!”….”yup”..”have a nice day!”

Ssshhhhhhh Tim doesn’t like people bringing up MacOS
Tim's next computer isn't a computer.

I'm a MacOS users since 2005. I've always been able to exercise a decent degree of autonomy over my device. I can install apps from the AppStore, Identified Developers ... and after ignoring a set of warnings, Unidentified Developers.
Ever since, MacOS has been my safest and stable platform.
Unfortunately this level of autonomy does not extend to iOS. This needs to change! It is possible as MacOS has proven for so many years.

I have hundred of costumers, I work a tech support. Virtually 0 problems with iOS/iPadOS, a ton of disaster on macOS because of this, computer full of malware is just one thing. "Normal" users are not the want who write in these forums.

I can lock you up and say I don't forbid your freedom. You are free to open the cage.
I wouldn't choose to be locked in in the first place. :p Novices like you may want to do that though, since you'll need a guide to open the cage's door. :D

If you don’t want to risk it then don’t side load. So long as there are api’s in place to detect phones that have side loaded apps then banking apps and the like can detect this and just not work.
The only thing that would be at risk is App Store revenue for apple. Don’t pay attention to any other noise coming from apple.

Give me a torrent app, a media player that supports all codecs, a browser that doesn’t use Safari API’s and Terminal. Then we won’t need another App Store. Oh and while we’re at it apps that improve file browsing and improves multitasking.
All that is there in so many other phones already, available for you to buy. If I wanted all those features I would've bought one of those, simple.

Normal users don’t activate sideloading either
Plenty of lay users got easily "tricked" into enabling side loading on Android. They are usually tempted by things like "free money," pirated apps, or even as simple as modded WhatsApp where you can "hide" your read status. These are real, and people will follow the instructions to enable side loading, the same reason they just click OK on any dialog box.

Look at how Epic providing instruction to side load fortnite on Android
They didn't even mention any risks. People will see that side loading is just okay and safe.
