I started experiencing this issue at 9:33am EST, but it seemed to have been resolved by 9:43am.

Not sure if it is even related but I have a company provided iPhone that when I unlocked it this morning all my contacts were gone. Unchecking icloud back-up and re-checking it, powering down etc didn't fix it. Nothing changed over the weekend. Just odd I see this and have this issue.
My gosh you had me jump right into my contacts and reminders then - a small heart palpation. I'm sorry to hear that's happening, I hope you can get it all back up!

My apple email is down too. When i try to send an email i get an error message “Cannot Send Mail. The user name or password for iCloud is incorrect.” I never got that message before and I was able to send emails from my apple email yesterday. 🤔

Over the weekend I had issues with sending mail. I wonder if I was an early canary in the coal mine from when it first started throwing errors? Guess I should've reported it but I was having a getaway weekend with the Mrs.
Every week i read something about "iCloud is down", this does not sound very reliable to me.
Did Tim enter the server room and stumbled over some magnetic power cable, again?

Good that I don't depend of it.
No, they got rid of the magnetic power cables, remember? He tripped on it and it knocked over an entire series of rack mount units and they're having to rebuild the array of spinning storage from backups.

Might be back up (at least starting too) at 11:35 EST. my iCloud email seems to be working again.

This is happening too often these days when users like me depend on it a whole lot. Mistake that I moved over to MobileMe since it’s inception thinking the product will be better than Gmail.

Yeah looks like its back. I didn't receive any mail, but the error is not there anymore when checking and it says Just Updated.

GoDaddy is outsourcing my web domain email account to Microsoft 365 in a couple of weeks. Just as well I guess because GoDaddy has often had down time on its mail servers in the past. But my free service will now cost me a monthly fee. So I briefly considered trying to use Apple iCloud Mail for my domain email, but soon found a lot of complaints about outages from all over the internet. And not just today. Seems like users have been experiencing outages a lot over the past. So I'll pass at that idea. I only have personal email, but still, when I need it I need it then, not hours or days later when the servers come back online...
I've been using the service since it was .mac, and I don't think I've ever suffered an email outage - maybe I'm just lucky though.

Whatever happened to uptime being a measure of a service? I hope people lose their jobs due to this incompetence.
Let’s say you have a service that advertises 97% uptime. There are 8760 hours or 525600 minutes in a year. At 97% uptime, you’d still expect 262.80 hours or 15768 minutes (approximately 11 days worth) of downtime each year. Let’s bump it up to 99.9% downtime. That’s still an 8 hour workday of downtime per year. Plus, uptime is dependent on downstream uptime and can also be impacted by natural disasters, out of cycle emergency patches (like the recent remote code execution patch Microsoft put out), malware, infrastructure attacks, etc., plenty of unpredictable events. Imagine a server farm in the World Trade Center on 9/11, there’s no way the firm with those servers could have anticipated reliability issues due to terrorist attacks.

Uptime isn’t really a science, and you could have multiple days worth of issues and still advertise uptime figures > 95%.

Same here. Always interesting when I’m in the Apple Store and the employee see the @mac.com email. Same response every time: “oh, you’ve been around for a while”.

Unless you have an uptime contract that specifies certain reliability figures, you’re going to find that most providers, especially in the free space, have their own reliability issues. Microsoft 365 might actually have uptime contracts with GoDaddy, so you might be looking for uptime in all the wrong places, looking for uptime in too many free services.
No, I pay GoDaddy for webhosting services that until recently included professional grade email hosting too. Nothing was FREE by any stretch of the imagination. You pay for it all in one package. But GoDaddy outsourced the professional grade email hosting to Microsoft and their Microsoft 365. Now I still pay GoDaddy the same amount of webhosting, but I don't get the professional grade email hosting in that package. Instead I have to pay Microsoft money to get my professional grade email hosting. THIS IS NOT free services by any means. So your analysis is way off and incorrect....

I was also one of the "some users" here in The Netherlands. The system status on Apple's website showed all green however. Was down for 2-3 hours.

I swear this is like every other week with this. And of course it always happens when I'm expecting important emails - like today!

Gave up on iCloud mail a long time ago. It sucks.
What do you use for email currently?
iCloud Mail has been strangely unstable the past couple months…I’ve noticed a definite uptick in downtime issues.
