Aside from the stupidity of the terms not being visible on the TV itself, why would one need a second device running the latest OS? There are quite literally millions of devices iOS and macOS that run perfectly well on less than current OS.

Kind of weird to have an AppleTV as your only Apple device to begin with. It doesn't do anything better than other 4K stream boxes at like 3x the cost.

The selling point for me at least is just how it works with other Apple services and devices... which if it's your only Apple device you presumably have zero benefit from that.

Eh, I can definitely see someone coming to the conclusion that Apple TV is the best set-top streaming device on the market and picking one up. Apple should be supporting the scenario that it is used as a standalone device, not paired with any other Apple device. This was a big guffaw on their part.

Afaik, Apple still hasn't made a mouse with 2 buttons. It is a one button mouse which can tell what side you click on. Why make anything simple when you can make it complicated?

I think the mighty mouse had multiple buttons. It had four functional controls, each with their own sensor, including buttons on the side of the mouse as well as a clickable scroll ball.

Apple, start building new experiences and software for your 0.1% power users. They're the ones that will make new experiences for the masses anyway.
And then lose the 99.9%? I mean… I suppose that’s one strategy.

And a Power User that’s not using the latest devices? Not much of a Power User, really.

For me this scenario underscores how Apple's software team seemingly build/test for 'perfect environment' scenarios and don't bother (or care) about the evil outliers. Perhaps partly explains why so many people run into issues upgrading software versions on macOS unless they're running a hardly modified version of the direct predecessor to the new update.

I don’t think “power users” have anything to do with this issue. And “power users” would’ve had multiple devices anyway, including a computer and a browser.

Real Power Users use command lines. I don’t think Apple TV is useful with command line interface.

Coming up next year:

AirPods that can only be activated from a Mac
Mac that can only be activated from an iPhone
iPhone that can only be activated with Apple Watch
Apple Watch that only be activated with Apple TV
Apple TV that can only be activated with a HomePod
HomePod that can only be activated with an iPad… that for some obscure reason needs you to click three times on the left AirPod pro to be activated.

Apple pen does not need activation

Need something easier for PW reset too. My MIL couldn't remember her PW and also has only ATV. Went to reset it but it said we had to wait 2w to get a message that we could go on the site and reset it. WHY?????

They are probably not that far away from shipping ATV without a remote. People already have iPhones or an old remote somewhere. And why stop there? Ship it without the power cord as well.

"
1. Go to iCloud.com, then sign in with your Apple ID.
2. If necessary, follow the prompts to review and update your account settings.
3. Review and agree to iCloud Terms and Conditions."

Good thing you replicated the instructions here because the support document you linked to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213610 no longer exists. All you get now is

The page you're looking for can't be found.

Maybe they saw your article and went 🤦

Reminds me of the "Documents" app by Reddie. I can't connect to ftp and smb servers on my local network without cellular data turned on. Works fine in my iPhone but useless on my iPad. o_O

Right, and as noted above, this also happens to people that DO have another Apple device. But if that device is not on, or is too old to get, iOS 16 you could still get locked out. Which is what happened to my mom.

The mighty mouse also only had one "clicker" (microswitch) but areas that could sense your finger.
You can clearly see the areas picking up your finger in the first picture in step 6 in this guide:

Glad there is a workaround but why can’t this be shown on the Apple TV?

Actually why can’t the Apple TV have Safari, the Home App, and the ability to update it from the Home App on my phone (like a HomePod)?
