It's 2022, I have advertisements served to me though every platform on my phone (email, app store, phone calls, texts, social, web, etc), and I can't even change the appearance of my icons. Windows 3.1 had this feature in 1992. The most asked for feature for years of all iPhone users is visual customization. Sure, you can change font and icon graphics or layout on Android.

What is the possible justification for the prioritization of work at Apple other than to sell you and your device as an advertising platform? Please give the end consumer something they want and like, not the corporate ad ecosystem.
How do you know the priority? Don't you think keeping advertisers, who provide revenue to Apple happy with their investment? Don't you think consumers that aren't happy with Apple can go to an alternate platform?

What human rights violation? Apple is committed to your privacy, that doesn't mean zero collection of any data whatsover.
Tracking every tap and associating the data with the user is a privacy issue, and Apple itself says that privacy is a human right -- therefore, human rights violation.

But it seems some of us have a different standard for Apple compared to Facebook and Google. If Apple always gets a pass, then discussion is pointless.

Let's just say you are right then, and Apple is right no matter what. No matter how Apple tracks, and no matter how Apple users our data, Apple is committed to our privacy. Apple is the best. That's easier I guess.

What about this human rights violation?

Meh. I’m not sure how my life will change if clicks in the App Store are collected. This says clicks are mapped to a profile but it doesn’t say the profile can or is mapped to a person.

The cashier at Macy’s knows what size and color underwear I wear. Do your worst.

Yes my initial post was wrong. I forgot we were talking about Apple and a different standard applies. I also didn't realize that Apple's privacy only needs to be as good as Macy's. Now I know. Apple is always right no matter what they do. 👍

In what way did I possibly say a different standard applies to Apple?

Honestly, I can’t see how you based your response on mine.

My point was that not all information about me is concerning if someone knows it.

You also blasted by my point that the profile isn’t tied to me (based on this article)

No Apple does not say that. Please point to where Apple says tracking a tap is a human rights violation.

Yes, some of us believe that Apple's business model is better than Google and Facebook. Because in the latter you are the product.
Let's just say you are right then, and Apple is right no matter what.
Ok for the sake of argument, let's say that Apple collecting data on how you use their systems, for their own use is okay. Because it lends to a better experience with their producs.

Yes. This means our information is not being sold. I am quite okay with Apple using my data to TRY to sell me something else that is Apple.
Apple is the best.
That's snark hyperbole, but OK.
That's easier I guess.
Yes.

Lol...soon, apple devices will be free, but all will come with in-app purchases and endless ads.

One poster above notes that ads are necessary for business because we won't/can't buy things we never heard of. This poster also notes that even a small coffee shop puts out a billboard with their specials on it. These things are undeniably true. When giant Sunday news papers were a thing I can remember my mom going through the Grocery ads to make sure she got the coupons for the deals the next week. This advertising was undeniably a benefit for her. The buy and the seller both got utility from the advertising.

However, ads today no longer provide any utility to users. There was no way for my mom to search for deals, she had to use the ads. Now I can search for products from a wide range of sellers to find the lowest price. I also don't need them for product discovery since the advent of the internet. Given that the benefits to the viewer have been erased (not needed for price comparison or product discovery), and the benefits lie completely with the advertiser I don't need advertising. Nobody needs advertising. Its effects are now completely malign because the benefits are one sided.

Hopefully they do another performance-focused update (like iOS 12) to squash all of these bugs introduced in the last few versions of iOS and iPadOS, like Siri, the Music app showing low-res artwork, these Wi-Fi bugs, etc.

If ads don't show up, wouldn't that be a feature rather than a bug?
No ads would be nice haha.

I guess I look at this as if my car radio had a glitch. The car would drive just fine so I can fix that radio anytime. But if the radio is draining the battery and my car won’t start it’s a much bigger issue.

Without any details we can only speculate how bad the bug in the ad software really is.

The frog continues to boil here..

I wonder how many more years of this trajectory Apple can get away with
