Maybe Apple should take a year off of major iOS updates instead of announcing features that most users wont have access to for 9 months.

Why? What would that accomplish? Just more arbitrary delay.

This is better than back in the days like iOS 13 where they tried to cram everything in on launch day and it had to go out whether it was ready or not. In recent years they are able to space out the feature releases to give them more time for stabilization.

There are quite a few new features coming in 18.0 that people are looking for. Even the initial AI features will be in 18.1 which is usually in October.

Cmon guys, let’s just admit it - Apple Intelligence won’t really be available to the public in a significant way until 2025, and especially so, when the iPhone 17-series of phones are released in Fall of 2025.
I wonder if Apple will ever get it right. But not only for the iPhone, also for the Mac. First move would be to skip this old 8GB setting for entry level Macs and move on to 16GB. Artificial Intelligence needs RAM on the local device, or it is running in the cloud.

I agree that the iP17 could be Apples first AI phone, but it will be hard to catch up with Google/Android AI capabilities.

They pretty much have with all that’s been announced. And I’m sure iPhone 16 will have more al stuff

We will have to agree to disagree on what an "arbitrary delay" is.

Every version of iOS, even if only marginal bug-fix releases, have things people look forward to. No need for a big update reveal with staggered features, but that's just my preference, you have yours. I preferred the early days of iOS when features were more readily available (sometimes the same day) and were mostly fully-baked and bug-free. Of course there's exceptions, but that was usually the norm. I hate waiting for a much sought-after feature only for it to be delayed. Messages in the cloud was one such example where the announcement and delays were quite annoying.
