Maybe Apple will match the $10 billion Bezos has committed to the cause.

Today, I’m thrilled to announce I am launching the Bezos Earth Fund.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Climate change is the biggest threat to our planet. I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change on this planet we all share. This global initiative will fund scientists, activists, NGOs — any effort that offers a real possibility to help preserve and protect the natural world. We can save Earth. It’s going to take collective action from big companies, small companies, nation states, global organizations, and individuals. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I’m committing $10 billion to start and will begin issuing grants this summer. Earth is the one thing we all have in common — let’s protect it, together.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣

Lol save the Earth. The Earth is doing just fine it’s we who need saving. Earth will be here long after we’re gone.

🤔

iPhone was announced on Jan. 9, 2007. The stock price closed at $12.21 the previous day. The stock closed at $324.95 on Feb. 14, 2020. That's a gain of $312.74 or 2561.34%

They were also the first trillion dollar company.

Apple is doomed?

You're not even taking into account that on June 9, 2014, the stock split 7 for 1. So actually, that Feb 14th closing price of $324.95 is actually really $2,274.65 had the stock not split 7 ways. So in reality, you should be comparing the increase from $12.21 to $2,274.65!

Hopefully Apple will diversify more production out of China in future having learnt the lesson now. Saw this coming.

I agree that Apple should have been diversifying.

I also don't think in the long run that a disruption in the delivery of electronics will cause lasting harm.

Unfortunately, we get 95% of our antibiotics from China and about 80% of the active ingredients to produce medicines from China.

We are also unable to make up any shortfall in the supply chain (most of our manufacturing for medicine is gone).

India is a major manufacturer but is also reliant on China.

Unlike the delay of iPhones, a supply disruption of medicine from China could be fatal.

This is a lot more complicated than “Apple should diversify out of China.”

First of all, they have. Apple has a lot of manufacturing outside of China.

The problem is still scale and part availability. You simply can’t get China out of the loop in any meaningful way. China is too good at manufacturing, have too many skilled workers, have too much experience, and have too much infrastructure to just ignore them. The iPhone also has many, many parts.

Apple isn’t stupid. They know the risks. There are risks to everything, but it’s worked out pretty well for them, hasn’t it?

Most profitable company in the world and just had the best quarter in corporate history with $22.1B in profit in 90 days. This is a minor hiccup that will impact many other companies, but Apple will figure it out and deliver, as usual.

If AAPL dips in any meaningful way, I’m picking up more shares.

If $AAPL falls by more than 10% when markets opens after absorbing this news for nearly a day, option vols may not be that high. But if current weeklies vols are high (>50%) I will be selling near the money puts looking to pick up shares under 300. My gut feeling is that big wigs like Warren Buffett may be adding if shares dislocate by more than 10%.

Read the PR on the Apple web site a few hours ago, & have been thinking about their use of the word "temporary" since then.

If taken to mean 2+ months to 2+years, then it's probably OK.

If even ONLY 2 months, then I suspect the traditional Sept iPhone event will be pushed-out till end of Oct OR so.

They will definitely want to have it BEFORE the Earnings Call in late Oct OR early Nov.

I'll bet this is already in their plans as of today.

NOT Rocket Science, just common sense.

Hope everyone stays safe. The folks in Cupertino have your back, China AAPL team. Stay safe, once this virus is over, it's time to get back to AAPL world domination.

Right, so Bezos also earned most of his money convincing people to buy ever more "stuff" on Amazon (Most with poorly made in China) With overnight shipping optimised for our convenience rather than for the efficiency. Just like Tim Cook with his unforced obsolescence, yearly upgrade cycles and Actively working against rights to repair.

I am largely frustrated and disgusted by the BS rhetoric that comes out of their mouths.

Understandable. In this moment, Chinese people have different priorities than buy Apple products... who cares about revenues?

It bothers me that Apple calls this viral outbreak a “extended Chinese New Year holiday”.
You clearly didn’t understand the letter.

How's that manufacturing in China working out for you now Tim Apple?
Every time I read something like “Tim Apple” i immediately classify the post as garbage.

Right because US-based manufacturing would NEVER be affected by anything whatsoever...

I think they idea here is that its high risk to completely depend on one factory and one country for manufacturing. Any environmental, political, or in this case biohazard issue will disupt the whole operation. They can not even migrate production. People think the China issue will be resolved in few months but it can take years...

I assume all global warming advocates would be applauding this result as a positive.

The coronavirus was created by the USA. Also it’s wrong for any company to use this as an excuse for the lack of profits.

Apple needs to branch out and help the broken hospital system.

How is that Apple's problem?

It's not an excuse, it's a fact. Factories are closed & cities are completely locked down. If the factories are closed then nothing can be manufactured or shipped.

They also said everything outside of China is strong. Can't say I'm surprised. This has dragged on a little more than Apple anticipated.

The stock probably doesn't lose more than 2% tomorrow as this will be a one time event.

2%?? Way too low a figure.

Apple needs to branch out and help the broken hospital system. We have great and fast enough iPhones, iPads and Macs . But when it comes to the hospitals THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN. there are so many diseases out there and NO CURE, not even for the common cold of the FLU which has already killed 10,000 people in the USA this year. More deaths than the coronavirus. Just shows how ILL equipped we are for a major Pandemic. I actually read that the scientists were predicting major VIRUS pandemics years ago and no one prepared still yet.

Really? :p so, This virus kill, so far 13%:

CLOSED CASES:
14,809 Cases which had an outcome:
12,935 (87%) Recovered / Discharged
1,874 (13%) Deaths

Do you know the % of Flu dead? 1%.
If this get out of control............

researchers look for cures, not hospitals (Some researchers work in medical research units)
not even for the common cold of the FLU which has already killed 10,000 people in the USA this year.
Sobering thought, annually 1.25million people die in car accidents.
Just shows how ILL equipped we are for a major Pandemic.
Governments are prepared to some extent.
The more you are prepared, the higher the cost, i guess there are somethings that politicians won't fund.
