Hello everyone!

I downloaded iTunes version 12.6.3 for the first time using the link on the Apple Support page.
However, when I clicked on "Updates" it says there are no updates available for the apps but when I plug my iPhone in it says there are updates for some of the apps when you click on the "Apps" listing on the left side when the device is plugged in.
Why does it say there are no updates available in the Updates screen across the top??
Please, can someone help me with this. I am a new user using this on a PC.
Many thanks

Did you sync the phone from Itunes? It needs to know which apps are on the phone an it may already have the updates if you have already synced with iTunes once - sync again and it should show the apps? Updates?

I never sync my phone from iTunes on my MacBook, as I sync with my iMac. I installed 12.6.3 and logged in on my Macbook, and I clicked the check for updates button, and it found 53 apps to update, and it worked when I went ahead and clicked update apps button. So all is well. Now to do this on my iMac.

I had to perform a hard reset of my iPhone 4 times before it was finally recognized by iTunes. I also clicked on Transfer of Apps in the iTunes preferences and they finally transferred over (synced) to the iPhone. Very frustrating. It took me forever by trying what many of you suggested and it helped a lot.

The reason that I am updating all apps through iTunes is because I don't have an unlimited data plan on my iPhone and constantly downloading app updates uses up all of my iPhone data. If I turn off my data on my iPhone and update all apps through iTunes on my computer and then sync (copy) them to the iPhone , I am not using up my iPhone data.

This elimination of the app store has been a nightmare especially in organizing apps onto various screens. So much easier in iTunes.

Does this all make sense?

Do you guys think that Apple will keep the App Store in future versions? I hope so.

P.S. Thanks to all for your help!

Apple clearly released this as a response to the backlash/negative feedback, but don't expect them to continue maintaining 12.6 when the features dropped in 12.7 are not as fresh in people's minds.

Has anybody experienced the problem where after a wireless sync with your phone that iTunes "accidentally" deletes some of your apps (basically the newly updated apps)? If you download them again directly from your phone it may (or may not) preserve the app settings, although if you reset your phone or backup your phone to iTunes it will definitely re-install as a newly wiped app.

No, but with WiFi sync enabled I frequently switch to iTunes on my Mac and find a pop up message saying that it couldn’t access my iPad or my iPhone because I needed to enter my passcode, but the try again or cancel buttons don’t work. I have to force iTunes to quit to make the dialogue go away. As long as the dialog box is open I can’t do anything with iTunes, even when my phone or iPad are unlocked on WiFi, or plugged in and unlocked.

Arrgh - Apple has beaten me!
Updating apps was working on my Mac but...
A long time ago I purchased iOS apps with my AppleID with no email suffix (evident from the Get Info function in the Apps library in iTunes). Recently I was forced to start using the @icloud suffix for my Apple log-ins (using same password). Now I cannot use iTunes 12.6.3 to transfer the updates for those older purchases to the iPhone - it tells me I am not authorised with that account. I have tried all sorts of combinations (log-ins) and nothing works.
Apple support suggested re-downloading al of the apps causing problems but that is risky - I might not be able to recover them.
If I connect my iPhone to my home network (to save massive data usage) and go to the Apps app it lists all the updates and starts to download them. However during this time a window pops up asking for my password for the original AppleID. It then successfully updates all the apps.
So ... there is no point in me using iTunes to manage apps on my iOS devices anymore.
