Right? They take their sweet time with eeeeverything these days. And to think this is just a stopgap solution that's not even affected by supply chain issues; the real problem solver for this mask-addled point in time we live in would be adding TouchID to the iPhone (an opportunity already missed with iPhone 12). By the time they deliver an actual solution to a real problem (and not sh!tty mercantilistic gimmicks like MagSafe) we will all have been vaccinated and over it.
Good I don't want them adding TouchId for a temporary issue. It'll just make the phone more expensive. And the notch will still be there for the camera.

I hope the default music streaming service can be set based on the voice of the person requesting music. I prefer Apple Music buy my wife and daughter both prefer Spotify. It will be great if HomePod automatically recognizes who is asking for music then plays from their preferred source.

I think it is the RC.
There's been that issue for the past few releases where beta updates don't have the Beta tag. For example, I got "Developer Beta 8" on my iPhone 12 Pro Max, but got just iOS 14.5 on my iPhone 12 and iPad Pro, all running the same beta profile.

So I wouldn't use this as an indication.

I have never experienced this.
Every time there has been no tag, it has been the final version. But of course, it can be the case here :)

At this point it’s not even about the notch and regardless of how temporary this issue is gonna be (nobody knows), having two authentication means is great to have. They could have just added the button TouchID the last iPad Air is using, no fancy sub-screen scanning or anything.

Forget the features. Bring on the bug fixes.

“It just works” is the most powerful feature Apple offers.
As a long time Apple fan, fully invested in a HomeKit home with multiple HomePod, HomePod Minis and smart everything… Apples slogan of “it just works” is absolute BS now. Siri in particular is the most stupid smart assistant out there and needs desperate improvements.

They must be anticipating this as the final update to 14.x but I suspect that they will have many more bugs to fix.

On my ipadPro, I noticed the the signing certificate in the ipadOS beta profile was EXPIRED. I deleted and tried to reinstall. After logging in, It lets me download the profile, but wont let me install… tried numerous times.

update: tried again and it finally worked...

pathetic how long they're waitintg with it.

The most needed update offering ways to unlock all iPhones that have no TouchID while wearing masks.
for crying out loud, SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED LAST YEAR!!
100% this. Especially as they didn't do touchID for iPhone 12. It should have launched in Sep/Oct with the new phones instead. It's not like this is in any way shape or form new tech. You can unlock your mac with Apple Watch for years. And macOS and iOS are the same base.

The slow speed of Google and Apple in software is shocking and can only be explained by both having grown so big, engineering teams spend more time coordinating, planning, reviewing, endless meetings, filing for approval, throwing away good things due to miscoordination etc. than actually coding.
