Apple today seeded the fifth beta of an upcoming tvOS 10.2.1 update to developers for testing purposes, one and a half weeks after seeding the fourth 10.2.1 beta and more than one month after releasing tvOS 10.2, an update that included improved scrolling and iPad support for the Apple TV Remote app.

The tvOS 10.2.1 beta is designed for the fourth-generation Apple TV. It can be downloaded by connecting the Apple TV to a computer with a USB-C cable and installing the beta software from a registered developer account using iTunes.

Because of the installation requirements, tvOS betas are limited to developers. tvOS 10.2.1 will not be available to the public until the final version of the software launches.

Apple does not typically provide detailed beta release notes, so we don't yet know what's included in tvOS 10.2.1. It's likely to focus primarily on bug fixes, security enhancements, and performance improvements, but we may not know what's new until the software sees an official release.

No notable changes were found in the first four tvOS 10.2.1 betas, but should anything new popup in the fifth beta, we'll update this post.

I bought one, latest generation, last year, played with it a bit and since then it's never used.
It's quite worthless in Europe compared to the States.
Apple should really invest more time in it for outside of the USA, now it's just a piece of """Junk"""

Wasted €190 on it.

I use mine for watching the Icelandic goverment tv station and have now ditched phone company vod box, that was overprised anyway. Thus, it frees me to only pay for network connection.

Lucky you, there's nothing from the TV providers in The Netherlands, you can watch them online on a PC and on Android but not on an AppleTv.

Guess I shouldn't have bought it since I also have a Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro which is much better than the AppleTv will ever be.

Not a developer but wanting to notify a existing glitch on my AppleTV 4 with latest OS... I keep having to go into Settings and reset the audio CC so it wouldn't show up on the screen. I've tried many things but somehow these settings seem to magically reset themselves to English.

Considering how little it does, it's incredibly buggy.

I'm still using two second generation Apple TV's and two third generations. Only because of my iTunes content. In UK it's next to useless which is a shame as I've had one since 1st generation but don't see any value in the fourth.

I hate to be that guy, but 10.2 is very glitchy. Hope this is an improvement.

Even the current release is glitchy, my friend. I have never used an Apple product as glitchy and prone to crashing and errors as the Apple TV. I'm constantly having to restart it just to get it to work properly. Occasionally it'll just stop responding to the remote as well.

Apple TV 4 running latest software.

I would agree, as long as this was changed to Apple TV 4, as the ATV3 is pretty solid.

The ATV4 has always been buggy, but the current OS is not nearly as bad as at launch and the first six months after. The OS was so buggy and unpredictable then.

I have noticed that every update that fixes bugs, the next one seems to add some more.

Anyone know if the voice over bug was fixed?

Yes, I'm speaking of Apple TV 4 specifically. But I do believe the entire range is buggy.

Wow, I must be the odd one out then. I'm in the UK and use the ATV4 all day, every day. We have no aerial or sky dish. EVERYTHING we watch is streamed via the AppleTV (and we have another upstairs in the kids room). Yes, we subscribe to Netflix and NowTV but with the apps available, we don't need to go elsewhere. I do also have an Amazon FireStick (for Prime..until that comes to AppleTV) and a NowTV box (which is still in the original box).

I airplay a fair bit too, from iPhone, Mac and iPad. I have never really had any problems. The odd occasion the screens goes white and restarts, but that is maybe a handful of times since I bought it (the day it was released). We use it with multiple sets of AirPods too, not had a problem (other than it's a faff to connect them, very click-intensive)

Hi

... you can Airplay any Amazon Prime content straight from you iPhone, iPad or Mac without using the FireStick ...

Cheers,
Ron.

Yep, I know that and use that method sometimes. But, that means another device out and being drained plus extra overhead on the wifi etc. :)

... true, it would only take a simple app from Amazon to accomplish, just like Hulu, HBO, CBS, etc ... I wouldn't worry about extra overhead on the Wi-Fi ... Netflix/Amazon speed requirements are about 5 Mbits/s, an 801.11ac connection is 1Gbit or higher (200x what you need) ... I use an old iPad 2Gen in another room, always plugged in, that's about all I use it for ...

Amazon Prime Video app to be released soon so will solve the problem ;)
