Apple today provided developers with the fifth beta of an upcoming macOS Sequoia 15.1 beta, with the new update coming a week after Apple released the fourth beta.

Registered developers can opt-in to the macOS Sequoia beta through the Software Update section of the System Settings app. An Apple ID associated with an Apple Developer account is required to get the beta.

macOS Sequoia 15.1 introduces the first Apple Intelligence features, adding support for Writing Tools, new Siri features, Smart Replies in Mail and Messages, Priority messages in the Mail app, Memory Movie and Clean Up in Photos, and more.

The update does not include Image Playground, Genmoji, or more advanced Siri functionality.

Using Apple Intelligence features requires a Mac that has an Apple silicon chip.

after 15.2 which is due to be out in December most major updates to Apple AI slow down.

so yeah. looks like 2025 is gonna be a boring year for new things Apple.

Sort of like the AAA PC games. not much coming out next year. GTA 6 was moved to 2026.

It’s not true. Usually the second biggest update is the one in Spring, so there’s a high chance lots of AI stuff could come out then too.

Looking forward to installing 15.4 or 15.5 around WWDC time, after all these bugs are somewhat worked out... and early adopters have found workarounds for those still lingering. Anyone missing "just works" Apple? I recall the "good old days" where one could wait for .2-.3 and have a pretty stable macOS.
Sonoma was pretty good at .2 when I installed it, but I guess it depends on how ambitious Apple has been in adding new software features, and it looks like Apple Intelligence stretched the software teams capacity to get things done.

Sequoia broke screen sharing. - Yes they certainly did!

Screen sharing through messages is now all messed up.

If I send a remote control request (Messages, Conversation, Ask to Share Screen) from my computer - the Screen share app is supposed to appear on the recipient Mac. This request screen allows the sender to ask to take control the remote Mac.

Unfortunately, this is now normal behavior only on certain Macs with MacOS 15.

On some Macs, the request fails to open the Screen Sharing app. Instead, FaceTime Audio opens and remote control does not work. Toggling the allow control button makes no difference.

I have been able to replicate this issue on two additional Macs. There has to be a logical explanation, unfortunately, I haven’t found it yet.

I’m still experiencing the “good old days” of it just works. I roundly reject the idea that Apple’s QA isn’t what it used to be. If anything it’s much better. That argument is pure FUD and I’ve been using Apple gear exclusively since 1982. I've been through it all in the last 40 years. It’s better today, no question.

The only thing I want from 15.X is the ability to change the window tiling shortcuts. Right now, the feature is completely unusable if you're working on a non-Apple keyboard that doesn't have/emulate the Fn/Globe key.

Sequoia broke screen sharing. If Apple cannot make work what has worked for 15 years then I do not have a lot of hope for Apple Intelligence. macOS 15 struck me as a beta, really awful.

macOS has gone to utter ****. Pretty laughable that so many still upgrade to these extended public beta releases on day 1, especially when there isn't even anything new in a .0 release, except for more bugs and superfluous crap.

Not showing up for my Mac either.

Edit: I turned beta updates off, and turned it back on, update shows now.
I was "hanging" on the Beta 15.1 track (from before 15.0 was released), and it gave an error saying my Apple ID wasn't enrolled... but after turning it off and on again only the "regular" beta track showed up, and it found the download... :)
