How about making FaceTime reliable after all? At least 50% of all calls fail on an ongoing basis. Why is it ringing on my side but the other side won't notice and vice versa? It's simply a terrible "sometimes it might work" solution. I could not give a bigger damn about group calls. Apple, you could finally build a version of FaceTime that does what's it supposed to do.... on every call.

WhatsApp always works. Skype always works. I have not literally have one failed call via WhatsApp. Apple is extremely lucky to have customers (or they found a way to keep them addicted) in the millions that loyal and look away when it comes to things like these.

not liking the buried of the flip camera option when it was only a tap away

There's several strange design decision in iOS 12. Not sure how this stuff makes it past executive reviews. Maybe those people are clueless?

In Messages, when in a conversation, the recipient's name appears at the top, as before, but now instead iof an (i) button, they changed it to a right-pointing arrow >.

FirstName LastName >

Tapping this expands the panel *down* with three abnormally small icons+text. The font size is small... feels wrong.

Hello Apple... a right-pointing arrow should take me on the right, as it's always done!

I never have issues with FaceTime getting an initial connection, maybe your internet connection? My calls sometimes fail though when both WiFi and lte signals are poor. In that case WhatsApp and Skype would fail also.

Good point. I noticed this as well. Why don't you submit an enhancement request via the feedback app?

Working for me (in notes in particular) I would try and reset the search DB. Open settings>siri and search> then turn off all the siri suggestions. (3 switches) Then turn back on after a moment. Maybe even exit settings and go back in to turn back on.

Actually tried that before posting,

Might have helped with spotlight but not with (bigger issue) inside notes app search,

Kinda easy fix (in my case with just a couple folders) though. Just move all notes to another temp folder and back to original (issue is you have to remember which notes where).

That kinda forces re-indexing as I saw,

Group FaceTime's UI seems to solve the age-old problem of >2 person video chats not working so well. Unfortunately, this is usually only an issue at work, and you wouldn't use FaceTime for work-related matters usually. Or maybe I just don't have enough friends who use iPhones (sadly most are on Android for some reason).

I've found Facetime to be way, way less tolerant of a less-than-perfect connection than Skype and others. Enough that I've stopped using it because, well, someone's connection always sucks, even in ****ing California. Experimented with this for years.

Same, as I said above. That and if you call someone on FT who is calling you, it tells both people the other person isn't available. Like on old-fashioned phones. Really, why doesn't it just connect the two people who are obviously trying to call each other?

iMessage is also very unreliable. I get messages out of order, or I don't get some, or my messages send twice... wtf. It's not just me. I think it's the end-to-end encryption on multiple devices complicating things. They seem to have a way more convoluted setup than, say, Facebook's simple "all messages in the cloud" approach that's not as secure.

The iOS 12.1 update reintroduces Group FaceTime, a major iOS 12 feature that was pulled during the beta testing period because it needed more work. Apple promised to deliver the feature in an upcoming update, which looks like it will be iOS 12.1.

Group FaceTime is designed to let you audio or video chat with up to 32 people at one time on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Calls can also be answered in an audio-only capacity using an Apple Watch or the HomePod.

Would be great if Group FaceTime can make it to the AppleTV, but we would then need some way of capturing video and audio in the living room to the device.

AirPlay doesn't really count since you tie up an iPhone or iPad for that.

Anybody having lots of issues with everything index/spotlight search related?

after CLEAN INSTALL of iOS12, .. searching INSIDE notes app doesnt bring anything ..spotlight wont find almos anything either..

Any solutions?
I've had this since first installing ios12 beta... searching within Notes app doens't show results that I know are there! (Unless I find manually, edit the Note, then search again).
Annoying!

Nothing is 100%, but the amount of problems with either FaceTime or iMessage isn’t even worth discussing over 5 years. I guess the old YMMV is true.

That's likely not necessarily the case for plenty of people.

I'm still having the same issues today. There shouldn't be "YMMV" with a simple messaging system.

Darn still no sign of eSIM with 12.1 beta on the XS/Max? Carriers and Apple pls hurry, family members need this asap.

If there are widespread overall problems it would be known. Sometimes “YMMV” is applicable.
It is known. Most of my friends and family use iPhones, and I can't think of anyone who hasn't had problems with iMessage. If you look online a bit, you'll see plenty of complaints. But no similar issues with Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, etc. Maybe you've got the most simple setup on brand new hardware or something.

If you search "Facebook Messenger out of order" on Google, you get threads about iMessage being out of order, lol.

This does not mean the masses are experiencing the issues you are facing. No technology is perfect and with 240 million Idevices or so out there some are bound to have issues. There may be some bugs with out of order that I’m sure Apple will address, but, imo, you are trying to make a bigger issue out of a minority of people who may be having issues is all I’m saying.

iMessage and FaceTime are about 99.9% reliable (to me) except when cell and WiFi signals virtually disappear.

good grief, there are 1.3B IOS users are you are rellying on people posting online as your gauge of anything!! Man. That's crazy. Even if 0.001% of people have issues, even if it is related to their own crap network, or connectivity, you'll get tens of thousands online "clamoring" about it. Means nothing at all.

As for messenger, you got to be kidding. There are plenty of crap happening there too.

I really hope they give me control over where the date and time appear on my iPad without the XS notch. Odd how the time is still in the center of my iPhone SE display running iOS12 but not my iPad.

I also hope they give me control over where the emoji key is positioned on my iPad keyboard. Maybe I just need some more time with the new placement, but I’m getting tired of cycling through the emoji keyboards when I’m trying to type numbers and symbols.

Hello all! I have a question: I've downloaded the iOS 21.1 p.b. and am using it with my iPhone X. My new XS Max arrives tomorrow. Will I be able install my 12.1 backup to the new phone, or would I have to uninstall iOS 12.1 and go back to 12.0 first? Thanks!

If your backup is 12.1, then the new phone will also have to be 12.1 or later meaning you will have to install 12.1 beta on the new phone to use your latest 12.1 beta backup.
