Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming macOS Sonoma 14.1 update to developers for beta testing, with the update coming just a day after the public launch of macOS Sonoma.

Registered developers can opt-in to the beta through the Software Update section of the System Settings app. Under Beta updates, simply toggle on the Sonoma Developer Beta. Note that an Apple ID associated with an Apple Developer account is required to get the beta.

There are several features that were announced at WWDC in June but that did not make it into the launch version of macOS Sonoma. Apple says that these features are coming in an update later this year, so we could begin seeing some of them in this beta.

Additions we are waiting on include interactive Music widgets, iCloud Sync improvements, the option to use Stickers through the Tapback menu in Messages, Intelligent form detection and Enhanced AutoFill for PDF documents and forms, an option to complete words by pressing the space bar, collaborative playlists in the Music app, and a favorite songs playlist.

When we learn what's new in the beta, we'll update this article.

Public beta on Friday? Ready to install that on my M1 MBA, my Mac Studio will remain on Ventura for the time being

Sonoma has done the impossible for me: made the wake from sleep issue even worse. Computer (2019 Intel iMac) immediately wakes when trying to sleep it, and continues spinning up and down my external HD's as it keeps trying to sleep and then wake. I've given up on troubleshooting, etc.

Had this happen in ventura....eventually I went into energy saver and prevented automatic sleeping when the display is off.... and stopped hard disk sleep....

That's crazy. I was literally just about to install Sonoma on my 27" i9 iMac but I'm going to hold off. I also have a Promise RAID (Pegasus2 R8) so this scares me...

Also, I really hope they give us the option to turn off the icons next to each favorite in the Favorite's bar. It's taking up excessive space with 10 folder icons. I know it's a folder guys...it has a dropdown arrow.

Well you can tell by the very few SDK comments, this 14.1 update won't have a long beta cycle until it's publicly released later in October.

Besides delayed features, are there any widespread bugs that can hopefully be addressed with this?

I have not yet updated and tend to wait until X.1 version is released.

The .1 finally matches every other operating system this time.
macOS usually lags one major X.X behind everything else.
More continuity between the operating systems is never a bad thing in my opinion
I reckon a combo of no October hardware event and continuing to shrink the number of supported Macs has allowed for this occurrence.

Not having to get Sonoma to run on the 12" MacBook had to save tons of time ha

Have you been having issues with your iMac waking frequently? It has been happening to me for quite some time. It usually would clear up after a couple of macOS .x releases, but in Ventura it started happening and never stopped. Sonoma appears to have made it worse.

You can turn off the favicon in the favorites bar. You simply right click and deselect "Show Icons." I personally like the icons and always felt something was missing on the previous iterations of the favorite bar.

did anyone have an external monitor issue via a regular usb-c to VGA adapter when updating to Sonoma? it always crashed on me within 5-8 mins of use.

The option to complete words using the space bar already seems to be working on 14.0, at least in Mail and Notes.
