Needing a new 🍎TV and since it’s not looking likely there will be an event next month, wonder if I should move on an 🍎TV 4K.
you may want to wait if you can, if they follow the cycle, there will be a new :apple: TV in the coming weeks, big event or not.

on one hand, I wouldn’t expect a big event for an updated :apple: TV, as I it can’t be as big as going from HD to 4K/UHD with Dolby vision and Atmos...on the other hand,:apple: TV + is a big deal, so IDK 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, ads. You know, a video that autoplays that you didn't ask for of content you don't already own that they want you to watch/buy... in other words, an ad.

If you don't think those are ads, I have a bridge over here you might be interested in buying... cheap!

You can turn that off in the Settings.

Can someone go into audio settings and see if anything has changed (hoping for bitstream output)?

I see Audio Mode > 16 bit. Don’t know if that’s new and if it’s what you’re looking for.

I think he means the recommended channels in the TV app Up Next and I agree, it is a hot mess ,the most non-Apple thing Apple has ever made.
Ah. Guess they’ve never really bothered me.

I kinda see them the same as the suggested things to watch in Netflix.

Yeah, it seams that they made a change so only the Menu button will turn on the AppleTV now where any button used to do that.
They've broken waking via IR too - I use a logitech harmony remote with an AppleTV profile which under tvOS 12 used to wake the apple tv when I chose that profile and then send it to sleep again when I used the "power everything off" button... now the profile wakes my actual tv but I have to press the menu button on the remote a few times to force the apple tv out of its slumber and the all off button doesn't put the apple tv to sleep.

to each his/her own I guess..... I actually like the suggestions. there are shows I now watch that I probably wouldn’t have discovered myself.

Not really though.
Agreed. Not really. I know PlayStation Now is coming to Apple TV in a few days but it really doesn’t matter.

Still works for me.

I would wait anyway. Get the free year of ATV+.
There’s going to be an event. Geeez stop being a Debbie downer.

All I did was sign out of the Apple TV 4K that I’ve had for over a year and then signed in with my wife’s Apple ID and then there it was..Apple Tv+ for one year free.

This fixed an annoying bug where the attached TV would not turn off if the Apple TV was put to sleep without the physical Siri remote connected. Unfortunately the TV still stays on when the Apple TV goes to sleep for being idle - I think that’s to prevent the TV turning off when you are using a different HDMI input though.

User switching still doesn’t include game saves (tied to Game Center I believe).

AirPlay 1 bugs are still there - apps that don’t implement AirPlay 2 will play over HDMI if you sleep and wake the Apple TV, until you deselect and reselect the output device.

Still no audio sharing support (2 sets of AirPods simultaneously)

I await the public beta as there are so many issues with the GM release of tvOS 13 is almost laughable, especially they are with core new features such as user switching and arcade!

I assume not many beta tested tvOS as I have seen no mention of the issues in blogs, my favourite is if you switch users to a family shared account arcade apps don’t launch you just see a subscribed message on the screen!

I have 3 Apple TV 4th generations and they all behave the same. This is just one of many issues!
I’m able to use family shared arcade apps across accounts with no problem (game saves are tied to the Game Center user though).

Anybody else having problems with flyover screensavers not loading new flyovers? I’ve only had one for a while now. If I turn on hdr there are all the missing ones. But I’m not leaving hdr on all the time. I’ve tried completely resetting and same issue. I have two appletv’s. Only problem is with my 4k tv. 1080p works fine. Hdr on with the 4k tv shows them but only one screensaver on the 4k tv. Pretty frustrating.

I just got a 4K for a theater room I in my new home. The Best Buy website says you will still get the year of TV service free for a year.
Very nice. I'm glad to see they are starting that now rather than next month. Luckily I can hold off a bit to see if a new device comes out soon. I have two 4k devices but only one ATV 4k. I can live with what for a while. ;)

I miss being able to hide the Apple Music subscription features. Has anyone found a way to do this on the latest tvOS? The music app menu is a cluttered mess.

They moved Up Next from the home screen to buried inside the TV app, and replaced it with previews of paid content that we are not subscribed to... aka ads.

You can turn that off in the Settings.

Not true. You can turn off animation in settings. That means the looping video ads will be be replaced with a looping slideshow of still images (ads). Meanwhile, Up Next is still buried inside the TV app.

Gotcha. I guess I see no use of the TV app at this point so I don't see them. Thanks

As someone who dearly misses Up Next (instead of ads) on the Home Screen, I've discovered a workaround hiding in plain sight...

Just get in the habit of toggling the TV and Menu buttons on the remote:
  • The TV button takes you to Up Next (inside the TV app)
  • The Menu button takes you to the Home Screen
Sure, that's been there all along but as an Up Next addict, I never actually opened the TV app, so I never gave the TV button a single press (just a double press for multitasking).

Of course, to restore full ad-free functionality of Up Next on the Home Screen, provide feedback at:

Running an Arcade game as a second user is working for me as well, but Apple for sure needs to add the ability to switch Game Center accounts when the user account is switched, so that the rest of my family isn't playing "as me." I'm hoping this is in 13.2.

They absolutely do - it seems like a totally ridiculous oversight to me. I assumed the whole time that that was how it would work.

It's not in the 13.2 beta - that's one of the first things I looked for when I installed it.

13.1 is already out.

There is no 13.1 for Apple TV. Not sure why though.

I am DESPERATE for an update. My Apple TV has NEVER worked right on any version. I disable auto updates, and it auto updates anyway. Always has. So annoying. And well, it did it again and shoved me onto this half baked OS13 and it is a MESS.

The menus are incredibly sluggish. The worst lag I have ever seen on ANY Apple device. If I should happen to be airplaying music (which also does not work right), it will cut out the audio, get sluggish to the point of unusable until it finally just locks up.

Lovely. Great job Apple. 🙄
