Apple today seeded the first betas of upcoming iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the software coming less than a week after Apple released iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3.

Registered developers can download the betas from the Settings app on the iPhone or iPad by going to the General section and selecting Software Update.

iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4 could be significant updates that will introduce several new features. We were counting on the betas to include the smarter, more personalized version of Siri that Apple first debuted at WWDC 2024, but Apple has apparently run into issues that could see some or all Siri features delayed until iOS 26.5 or iOS 27.

We could still get some new Siri capabilities, such as tools for generating images and searching the web.

The update is also expected to include new emoji characters, such as trombone, treasure chest, orca, landslide, and Bigfoot.

iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4 are limited to developers at the current time, but Apple will likely release a public beta in the next week or two.

Everyone needs to relax about the new covering of Siri. Apple said it would debut in 2026. We still have nearly 10 months left and Apple is already operating at a break-neck speed of innovation with the strongest pipeline every, focusing on taking Siri to a whole new level. Rest assured that Siri 2.0 wilt change the game for users, making the best-in-class iPhone truly for the pros.

But seriously, gone are the days of truly delighting customers. It is all about a clear upgrade path for for revenue growth, ensuring ever-increasing profits for years to come.

As always, Gurman was wrong, claiming this wouldn't be released until the week of the 23rd.

Does it include ANY Siri/AI features? Because if not there’s no reason for them to hold off until next week. That tracks perfectly, actually.

There must be some behind-the-scenes work going on with Siri and Apple Intelligence. Apple Intelligence needed to re-download after this update.

I have the same (Siri icon)

This update is downloading additional Apple Intelligence support features.

Not sure if this happens on most betas but my download hit 100% half an hour ago and it still says downloading.

My guess is the Siri orb appears when you’ve either got Apple Intelligence disabled or when it’s not available?

It was a joke more than anything serious.

Called it, no sign of Siri. What a joke.
did you know that many of the new iOS features announced at WWDC are not in the betas? They arrive with the public release of the new iOS.

The betas prepare Apple for the turning on of the new stuff, not all of the new stuff is on every beta.

There is no way I would expect 26.4 beta 1 to include "new Siri". It is building the foundation that new Siri will use later in the year- maybe in public 26.4 in March, maybe later.
