Alongside the first iOS 16 public beta, Apple today also released a HomePod Software 16 update that is available to public beta testers. This marks the first time that Apple has provided a HomePod beta to its public beta testing group.

The HomePod Software 16 update can be downloaded from Apple's beta site after installing the iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 software updates. From there, users will need to go to the Home app, select the Settings option, and choose Software Update.

HomePod users with the iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 update can then enroll their HomePod mini in the beta program. According to the public beta website, the HomePod Software 16 beta is only available for the HomePod mini and it cannot be downloaded on the larger HomePod.

I hope that’s more of an Apple Watch Series 3 and less of a Stage Manager kind of issue.

@Marie.D

audioOS 16 will be available on the original homepod as well. You can install the dev beta right now on them, just not the public one. Makes sense to play it safe with the general public.

The original homepod will get audioOS 16 too, but the public beta can only be installed on the Mini, probably because currently is the only HP model that can be restored manually if something goes wrong.
Oh well guess even Apple acknowledge it is dangerous to install Beta Software on those. Shame they turned out to be so "fragile", sound-wise they're stellar.

Since the "reduce bass" toggle introduction, yes, they are. Prior to that they were bass heavy speakers with recessed mid range, but quite clear nonetheless.

Considering how buggy HomeKit is in iOS 15, how can it get any worse! Installing... Seriously though, betas are still "tested" pieces of software just like "final" releases of software are, for whatever it is worth. There will be bugs... get used to it.

Until Siri improves significantly and in particular lets me natively stream SXM without having to do it from my iPhone, I'll stick with my Echos. Good luck to all the HomePodders out there, though!

The API is out there. Its up to Sirius to take advantage on it and integrate with the homepods.

I put my Homepod mini back in the box less than an hour after buying it, because it was excessively bass-heavy.

How do I enable this "reduce bass" option?
