Apple today released the first beta of iOS 8.1 to registered developers for testing purposes, just a few days after the release of iOS 8.0.2, which fixed a bug introduced with iOS 8.0.1. The beta arrives as build number 12B401.

Apple has also released a new Apple TV beta and Xcode 6.1 beta 3.

iOS 8.1 likely includes several bug fixes for issues in iOS 8, and it also likely includes support for Apple Pay, Apple's mobile payments service that is launching in October.

Along with iOS 8.1, Apple is also simultaneously working on iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3, all of which are expected to add new functionality to the operating system.

iOS 8 has had a rough start, with Apple temporarily removing HealthKit ahead of the launch of iOS 8 and then releasing an unstable iOS 8.0.1 update that disabled the cellular and Touch ID service of many users. Apple released iOS 8.0.2 to fix the issue, but several other problems have come to light, including a bug that causes iCloud Drive documents to be deleted.

This just reminded me I need add my 6 to the developer account!

I'll probably hold off on the 8.1 beta, mostly because I don't feel like reinstalling all my apps right now, unless the update notes prove to be worth it.

It is coming.. but maybe not as soon as I was expecting. First seed now means a couple of more seeds and a couple of more weeks?

X.1 updates have been pretty stale for Apple over the past few years :/

Hopefully this does bring Apple pay. Though I'm not sure my bank will support it...

2.09GB for the iPhone 6 IPSW. Wowsers. Hopefully I can get it downloaded and installed before I go to sleep.

Hopefully notifications won't hang for a whole minute now. I haven't heard a lot of people complain about this, but I and a couple family members have all experienced notifications that will hang at the top of the screen until manually dismissed or waiting for a minute.

I know a few people who for some reason can't dismiss notifications manually in iOS 8 and 8.0.2.

That's one of my BIGGEST gripes about iOS 8, sometimes I can't even manually close them. I have to double tap to open the multi-tasking menu just to make it go away.

Not sure about the 8.02 iCloud bug. I had my iPad Air replaced friday with 8.02 installed and when I restored all my data to my new iPad all my iCloud drive data came back with no problem. I did the erase all settings and content option with no problem. iCloud did however take longer than normal to sync back to pages, numbers and other apps using it.

Could be an issue of people not waiting long enough for things to resync. Also I don't understand how this would happen if you have it in the cloud on multiple devices it should still stay with those devices as well.
