See you again

I am going to hope probably in vain, for an OpenGL update. If Lion doesn't bring OpenGL 3.3, then I'll probably switch to Ubuntu/Fedora or Windows 7 because I'm sick of dealing with inferior 3D performance on the apps I use.

Please inform Apple and us of your decision as soon as you switch to Windows, we all wish you the very best with your new platform and we doubt we should hear from you on this forum, bye.

I hope this is a universal update to all hardware currently out.

I would say the most likely scenario is where they will merge the two branches (the main branch and the special branch for new hardware) then pretty much crown it a release. As for a 10.6.9 release I would say such a decision will be made on feedback relating to 10.6.8 and whether continued maintenance (beyond security updates) can be justified with a rapidly shrinking 32bit CPU user base.

What SATA related issues? you're talking about the 15/17inch? that is a design defect - surprise, surprise, design defects cannot be fixed with a software or firmware update.

It's in some ways a design defect, but it's only a problem with SATA3 drives AFAIK, and Apple only ships with SATA2 drives, so only uninformed people purchasing drive upgrades will run into issues. It would be nice if SATA3 drives worked though.

The OpenGL stack does't affect rendering performance, only the rendering capabilities.

Well, indirectly it does effect performance as well. 3.3 has capabilities for the app developers to use to speed up many stuff compared to OGL2. Of course it'll take time for them to implement.

Well the user was talking about the present, so the driver stack performance would be a more suitable assumption.

I'm glad 10.6 is getting another update. 10.6.7 really slowed down access to the App Store.
And unless 10.7 has some killer, and I mean KILLER, upgrades, I expect to stay with Snow Leopard. It works great for me, and if it ain't broke....

Well for me Apple's refusal to offer a matte screen option on their iMacs means I'll also be stuck at 10.6.x as I refuse to buy a new system.
