Hi Everyone, Please could someone answer a couple of questions on how Photos behaves?

1. Do book projects get imported from iPhoto into Photos?

2. Do book projects sync in the cloud so I can access them from 2 different Macs?

3. Has anyone merged two iPhoto libraries from different macs into Photos and how did it go?

Thanks in advance to any one who takes the time to answer any of these questions.

:D:D

Those are the burning questions I have as well! Anyone have the answers?

Has anyone in the public beta noticed the availability of this update today?

I find 10.10.3 beta is much smoother when opening and scrolling notification area. Before it would chunk, now its much smoother. I also used to get degraded scrolling performance over time. So far I havent seen that.

Safari is still not quite perfect and isn't able to maintain 60hz all the time when scrolling.

BTW Photos is awesome and fast. Its gong to be a kick-ass platform. Now if only Apple would rewrite itunes garbage and make it fast and lean like Photos.

I ask for Photos for OSX extensions and you give me Photos for iOS extensions?? Uh, thanks for that... /s

Some people just can't think outside of the box...

Photos for OS X and Photos for iOS use the same exact library. They're interchangeable. The tools that can manipulate a photo in iOS can by extension manipulate the ones on your Mac via iOS.

After i updated the latest beta, i can no longer make phone calls from my iMac or macbook. Anyone else have that problem?

1. Yes
2. Yes

Anyone else noticing that Contacts, Calendar and Reminders is borked on 10.10.3? Only when enabling iCloud. Contacts just crashes, and when you try to enable iCloud sync for Calendar and Reminders it just hangs after asking if you would like to merge with local. I did a complete reinstall twice (fresh 10.10.2 then right to 10.10.3) and it keeps happening. Wonder what they're changing.

Anyone know the answer to number three? I'm really curious whether to libraries can be merged.

Question: I know on the iPhone the photos are optimized but on the Mac are they optimized as well? I would prefer to have the full sized version that I can backup and not be 100% reliant on iCloud.

You can choose to store the full version on your iMac or optimize storage.

Does Photos app collate pre-organized albums to IOS devices

Sounds very nice but I have a big question that results from years of iPhoto/Apple experimenting of which I have not found a solution.

I have a photos collection of about 32,000 family photos from 1928 to present. All photos are in folders categorized in years (ex. 1998, 1998, 2000, etc.). Each year has a series of sub-folders which are labeled with date and name of event. Naturally, this Photo folder tree is stored in chronological order on my iMac (Finder) for easy retrieval of any event.

The problem is I can not duplicate the chronological folder order onto my Iphone 6+ or my iPad Air 2. I have tried many combinations of syncing photos (entire library, selected events, etc.) via iTunes onto my IOS devices but can not duplicate chronological order. Albums are synced out of order (1999-12-25, 1962-6-13, etc.). This obviously makes finding particular dated events almost impossible.

Does anyone know if this new photo app is going to address this problem or is there another way to solve this problem?

Currently there is no such option. You can import a library and files/folders.

That is too bad. That means that those of us who have photo books on different iPhoto libraries will not be able to merge those photo books into one Photos library. I have photo books on my iPhoto library, and my wife created one on her own Mac. I've always wanted to get them combined into one library.

I know from reading this thread that when you import from iPhoto to the new Photos app, it creates a new database. What I am wondering about is whether it literally duplicates the whole thing, so that (at least temporarily) I need to have the HD space available for two libraries. My library is large.

No it does not. I uses OS X "hard links" to the existing, actual files, so they are not duplicated.

Anyone know if there is a "trash" in Photos? If my 4 year old gets a hold of my phone, which is syncing with the Photos library, and deletes stuff, I'd want to get it back.

There is, if I read the support page correctly, you have a total of 60 days to be able to get a picture back (assuming iCloud syncing). 30 from within the app and an additional 30 from contacting Apple Support.

Though I suppose if you are making a TM backup of your library, you should be able to restore beyond the 60 day window Apple provides.

I'm using the Photos app beta, and have been uploading a large 600 GB library. It had some 40,000 photos/videos. It got down to only about 6,000 items left to upload, and then it started going backwards -- now claiming it needs to upload 20,000 again. Very strange.

Has anyone else had problems importing files? I imported all 18k photos I've taken on my iPhone over the years, about 17.5k or so imported but theres a load that didn't, and when I try to add them Photos recognised them in the "New Items" panel but when I select them "Import X Photos" remains greyed out.

Any suggestions?

Anyone else notice that referenced files cannot be uploaded to iCloud photo library? Seems like this means there is no way to use a large library on MacBooks. With Aperture, I would keep most of my library on an external and the smaller previews on my SSD. Does not seem like that is possible here along with the cloud support?

I have resorted to just running the entire photos library from a USB3 external. This seems to work fine so far, but what do I do when I have my machine away from the external? It seems like this is not a feasible solution at all.

Only other thing I can think of is to run multiple libraries? Any thoughts?

Verweb not working in 10.10.3

I'm an EverWeb user and they have just warned us that it is not working at all in 10.10.3. Whew – and I was thinking of loading it because I couldn't find a list of apps not working.

Can photos importing to Photo app be stored in external drive?

I keep my photos stored in an external drive because my internal drive is too small. This seems like a common practice to me. Therefore, in iPhoto, Preferences, Advanced, Importing: "Copy items to the iPhoto Library" is unchecked. When I "Reveal in Finder" any photo in iPhoto, it opens a Finder window to where the photo is stored in the external hard drive.

Would I be able keep my photos stored in the external drive with the Photo app?

Apologies if this has been asked before, and thank you in advance!

Rolling back to Mavericks

Who cares about Photo app when wifi drops every 30 sec, that happens when half tested OS are released to make a date and not a standard, unluckily we cannot roll back to Jobs, Way to destroy a legacy Cook #wififail
