I'm just glad they kept the safari 6.0.5 in this build. The safari 6.1 released recently has been problematic. I tried it for a while but had to uninstall and go back to 6.0.5.

Fix for Wifi Issues on 2007 - 2008 MBP?

Wonders if they will fix the wifi issues on 2007 and 2008 MBP so that i do not have to patch in the file from OS X.7 to make it work with audio streaming and wireless backups?

I just assumed everyone was on 10.9 already.

OS X 10.9 does a lot of under the hood changes so I wouldn't be surprised if wrapping things up for Lion will give customers some leg room to keep using Lion till issues in third party applications are addressed before upgrading. It is good that Apple is supporting so that more conservative adopters can keep with their current configuration till they're confident that OS X 10.9 is ready for them and their work flow.

When was Safari 6.1 released because I'm running Safari 6.0.5 that came with 10.8.4 and I ran update just then and nothing has happened

June 10.

It only shows up for developers.

It keeps showing up for me in the mas updates but now I just ignore it because I don't want it.

One of my email accounts uses the microsoft outlook web app and it isn't fully functional in safari 6.1. But it works perfectly in 6.0.5.

(Note to developers: If you install safari 6.1 from the mas and also find you don't like it and want to go back to 6.0.5, you can get the uninstaller from the mac dev center or safari dev center.)

Are there any new OpenGL extensions? Mavericks added both OpenGL 3.3 and 4.1 support, although not direct OpenGL 4.0 support (no GLSL 4.0). OpenGL 4.1 support is no doubt going to be kept exclusive to Mavericks, but is there any chance OpenGL 3.3 will be back-ported to Mountain Lion, especially since partial OpenGL 3.3 extension support is already present?

Any update on ML's shutdown speed with 10.8.5? Is it snappier?

e.g. Lion had fast shutdown speed, so why can't Mountain Lion have similar or slightly slower shutdown than Lion - e.g. Lion shuts down in 2-3 seconds whereas Mountain Lion shuts down in 20-30 seconds. No matter what people say about the time needed to shutdown lots of processes, it does not explain why Mountain Lion's shutdown is so much longer than Lion's.

LOL I'm sorry but Lion was NOT snappy in it's shut down. What they need to get, is the speed and fine tuning that Snow Leopard had. Literally from the time you hit shut down it took 3-4 seconds to shut down and power off completely. THAT is what I'm expecting for Mavericks, but not from any sort of Mountain Lion update.

But for my Lion installation, the shutdown was 3-4 seconds. I did a clean wipe followed by a clean install, plus only Lion-compatible apps. Maybe that contributed to my Lion shutdown was 3-4 seconds. I have had several Snow Leopard Macs, and I confirm that my Lion shutdown was as fast as the Snow Leopards. Hence why I miss that fast shutdown on Mountain Lion.

Hope this fixes the sleep issues I have with my new iMac, loosing network drives after waking from deep sleep. Also USB drives being disconnected unexpectedly after waking up.

I'm not an expert here, but this has been the case forever. At least is better than my old imac that upon resume from sleep it thought it didn't have a wireless card (Apple acknowledged the bug but never fixed it). I added my network drives to my startup items and it seems to have helped quite a bit. At least I don't have to go fishing for iphoto library any more (I keep it on my time capsule so all my macs can use one library for iphoto and itunes instead of duplicating things all over the place). I suspect this will work for your issue too.

But you said:

Which implies that it has been 'released' to the public when in reality you're complaining about a beta that is only available to developers and thus hasn't been 'released'.

I think the term 'released' is fair use in a thread discussing a beta.

If someone doesn't mind, can I get someone running this new 10.8.5 to go into preferences > CUDA and post the Nvidia GPU driver version with this update?

I would like to compare to 10.9 DP1 which is running on version
GPU Driver Version: 8.18.2 310.40.05b03

?

Thanks

Looks like 8.14..44 310.40.00.10f02.

I've also heard that 10.8.5 includes openGL support up to 4.0 (slightly behind 10.9 which has some 4.1 or 4.2).

Mountain Lion still needs a lot of polishing. ML never felt as fast as snow leopard was for me. Even with my rmbp and a speedy ssd, not quite the performance I hoped it would be. Still choppy and laggy UI performance.

I hoped by 10.8.5 it would have been smooth sailing. I guess I'll have to wait for a decent release of 10.9
