Congrats to Apple. In only 6 months you’ve convinced me beyond any doubt to get rid of iPhone/watch and go straight back to Samsung and Garmin. I’ve used Mac OS since 8 and it’s still the best on the market. But the other stuff is gimmicky nonsense for flag-wavers and hypochondriacs.

Waiting until x.5 to update. I am SO glad I didn't update my MBP to this mess.
I'm holding off until macOS 26.1 is out. But I'm actually looking forward to it. What I've seen things looks just fine in macOS Tahoe. I like the new arrow pointer that is symmetric, if nothing else. :)

More interested in what changes there is in Music in since what was installed with macOS Tahoe 26 completely messed Music up on my machines. Why is it Apple can't leave well enough alone or add features with out messing up what was working on the previous version.
This is what baffles me!

It feels like they start each iOS from scratch, instead of building on to of what already works

Got my first tiny taste of LG in Firefox that updated automatically on an extra iPad of mine where I'd forgotten to turn off auto App updates.

Oh. My. God.

That is so frickin' awful

Just opening the settings dialogue made me gasp.
What on Earth were they thinking?

Vote with your $$$. Imo, it’s likely you will return though. If you believe “the other stuff” is gimmicky nonsense for flag wavers and hypochondriacs, the billions of Apple customers say otherwise. This type of cycle is typical of every release. This release is in line with other iOS releases I’ve been apart of and like the changes.

But enjoy your future hardware.

You bought the iPhone with the smallest battery and you're worried about battery issues? Do you even? if you got battery issues on the Air Apple made an "extra battery pack" you can attach to your super slim phone.....to make it bigger than ALL the other phones. Good job dude, that's enough internet for the day.
I think this is a MacBook Air

Im using an iPhone 15 Pro and grabbed this update on day one. This is the first time I’ve ever wanted to downgrade because of the terrible design. Many bugs and battery life is still so poor a week later.

I must be lucky. No issues on iOS 26 with my iP17Pro. All apps working fine. Liquid Glass is fine as I toned it down in the settings. No Wi-Fi issues on any of my devices...knock on wood. Can't address CarPlay as I don't use it much but the two times I tried it I didn't notice any problems. Granted it was for a short period of time.

You know I watched all of the YouTube reviews and tests that had it pegged as reasonably close to the 16 Pro and probably enough for my very light use case lifestyle. I don't think many are buying the Air without some qualifications.

The truth is that it is nothing like that, and that the battery (at least on my unit) is so questionable that I feel that Apple has dropped the ball here. I have an image of my battery use in the Air thread in which my battery dropped 30% overnight with 5 minutes of screen use. This suggests a software issue. If I can't improve it with an update or reset then back it goes I suppose.

Thanks for your valuable assistance.

No. The future is tomorrow not five years ago. If you really were a long-time apple fan you’d know iOS 26 is a rehash of Panther with nicked bits from Android 13. I’m a runner. Runners don’t use gimmicks.

You can buy the best shoes and still lose the race. It’s to be reminded the android copy scandal of iOS of yesteryear.

That seems a bit off. Most people who use the "wait until bug fixes are released" line of reasoning specifically suggest waiting until the x.1 update. Which would be... ahhh... this one.

But be that as it may: in this case, I'd wholeheartedly concur with the more popular variant of that sentiment, as this 26.1 beta update has indeed fixed some of the bugs that most annoyed me about 26.0, and that still weren't fixed in the "final" 26.0 release. In fact, given how quickly this particular beta came out after 26.0, I'm baffled that they released it to the general pubic in that condition at all.

Did they fix how ugly Liquid Glass is on iOS 26, or are they waiting for iOS 27?

Sadly, there doesn't appear to be anything new on that front. Liquid glass is (in my opinion) still a bit of an inconsistent hodge-podge. Who on earth actually thought it would be a good idea to mix liquid glass folder icons alongside tinted glass app icons? I just gave up and switched my app icons back to their default, because unless I'm missing something, it doesn't seem like you can do much about those folders.

... It’s to be reminded the android copy scandal of iOS of yesteryear.

Elaborate, if you please: which scandal, exactly?

Because while the first Android scandal arguably took place practically immediately after Apple's very first demo of iPhone OS, there have been quite a few subsequent instances of copying... and quite honestly, not all of those instances were Android copying iOS; Android users will of course be very quick to point out that it's gone the other direction as well, a few times.

Of course, as I've noted elsewhere, this whole game of competitors copying OS features goes at least as far back as Windows copying MacOS... and was effectively deemed fair game by the courts in 1995. So, "scandal" or not, it's all just business as usual at this point.

I installed the 26.1 beta on my iPhone 11 Pro, which I use for development, and honestly, it doesn’t show any major instability compared to the 26.0 public release (apart from the bugs already mentioned in this thread). What stands out, however, is that the liquid glass effect feels overly pronounced again—it makes the outlines of icons, commands, the settings menu, and so on far too noticeable. It feels like we’ve gone back to the very first betas of iOS 26. Personally, I don’t like this: it makes the UI look artificial, and I struggle to see the point of it.
Maybe Apple is experimenting with an interface where the liquid glass effect can be “tuned” by the user—if that’s the case, it would make sense. But if this design is meant to stay, then visually I find it unappealing. Frankly, Apple’s developers would be better off focusing on improving stability in iOS 26 and addressing the many bugs reported by those of us who volunteer to test these betas.
That said, I’m not a computer engineer, so I can’t really judge the technical purpose of this iOS 26.1 beta. What I can say for sure is that I won’t be installing iOS 26.1 beta on my iPhone 15 Pro, which is my primary device.

This is not particularly beta-related, but the iconography for Adaptive Audio for AirPods makes no sense to me. Is the slider turning up the outside noise or the iPhone sound?

If it’s that bad, I think I’d try for a replacement. That isn’t normal at all.

They have gone to hell these last few updates
