Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming iOS 12.4 update to developers, two weeks after seeding the third iOS 12.4 beta, and a month after releasing iOS 12.3, a major update that introduced a revamped TV app.

Registered developers can download the new iOS 12.4 beta from Apple's Developer Center or over-the-air once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Developer Center.

There were no new features discovered in the first three iOS 12.4 betas, so it's not entirely clear what's coming in the update. As a more significant 12.x update, it's possible that the update is focusing on a feature that's not yet available -- the Apple Card.

Apple is planning to release the Apple Card in the summer, so iOS 12.4 could be the update that prepares the iOS operating system for that launch, adding hidden features that will be unlocked when the update becomes available to the public.

If we find new features in the fourth beta of iOS 12.4, we'll update this post.

iOS 12.4 may be one of the last updates to the iOS 12 operating system as Apple transitions to iOS 13, set to launch this September.

261.6 MB. I’m guessing we still have a couple betas before public release.

I really do hope that they enable the ECG in this update for Canadians, now that Health Canada has given approval. I really hope we don't have to wait for iOS 13/WatchOS 6, for a feature that already works in other regions, just needs enabling for Canada.

Or can that be done remotely without an update?

It's not even mid June. September is a looooong way away. There'll still be a few more updates to iOS 12 until iOS 13 becomes available to the masses in the fall.

I'm confused. If it's supposed to add functionality which hasn't yet been enabled, then how are the beta users supposed to actually test it?

It's a developer beta. The main purpose is to test that your apps continue to work properly, not test new features.

(Developer betas also sometimes come with Release Notes calling out what in particular to test.)

Well, very unfortunately, I’m in Canada on both iOS 13/watchOS 6 developer betas and my ECG feature isn’t even yet enabled! I’m quite disappointed.

With heavy software integration. Which will probably ship as part of an iOS update.

...and a very lackluster one at that.

They should add a world or world elite one that offers more, even if it comes with an annual fee.

I could see them adding a higher tier at some point. The Apple Card is new to both Apple and Goldman, so it makes sense that there is one offering initially.

Pretty sure it’s two (or more) of iPad Mini 4... how would you prefer it to be written? iPad Minis 4? iPads Mini 4?

Makes sense, didn't even think of this, still sounds a bit odd though.

Well there's very few updates in the summer. Last release of iOS 11 before iOS 12 was on July 11th 2018. That's about 2 months before 12.

My Amex app for my charge card has all the same features.

There’s a lot of money to be made in this industry. American’s love credit card debt. Apple is doing this to capitalize on that and not because they can actually improve the system.
