Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming tvOS 11.2.5 update to developers for testing purposes, one week after seeding the third beta and almost a month after the release of tvOS 11.2.1, an update that introduced a fix for a HomeKit vulnerability.

Designed for the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models, the new tvOS 11.2.5 developer beta can be downloaded onto the Apple TV via a profile that's installed using Xcode.

We don't yet know what features or changes might be included in the tvOS 11.2.5 update, but it likely focuses primarily on bug fixes and performance improvements rather than major outward-facing changes.

There were no outward-facing changes discovered in the first three developer betas, but we'll update this post should new features be found in the fourth beta.

Update: Apple has also seeded a new public beta of tvOS 11.2.5 to public beta testers.

Does it fix the inability to browse a connected USB drive's files through the USB port on the back of the 4th gen AppleTV? That was a pretty boneheaded oversight.

Has that ever been a feature of a recent AppleTV?

TVOs 10 still sucks compared to the previous version of the OS.
Netflix App offers a far better UI.
With iTunes Home Sharing, Movies, TV, Music, etc there is a option bar on the left for everything except music.
For Movies/TV you get to see a maximum of 3 items, the list view in the older version was far superior.

I give it a 99% chance I will be taking the ATV4 Back to the old version within a week.

Do we really need all these different operating systems?

'fix it'? I don't believe that was ever allowed...this isn't a system designed to do anything like that

The AppleTV never had that ability without using a 3rd party software that usually required jailbreaking. Apple TV 4th Gen and above allows you to now get software from the App Store that can either stream from your cloud accounts and/or network connected drives. To me that was one of the best features the AppleTV got when they introduced the App Store.

We’re never going to get ATMOS audio support for iTunes movies. I know it. I can feeeel it. I’ll be stuck with discs for priority films yet.

Also noticed you can’t buy TV shows in 4K. Yet when they arrive on Netflix they’re in 4K. ????

That has never been and never will be a feature. Get a router with a USB port if you must.
