Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update to developers for testing purposes, one week after seeding the third beta and over a month after releasing macOS Catalina 10.15.4 with Screen Time Communication Limits, iCloud Folder Sharing, and real-time Apple Music lyrics.

The new macOS Catalina beta can be downloaded from the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences after installing the proper software from the Developer Center.

macOS Catalina 10.15.5 introduces a new Battery Health Management feature for Mac notebooks, which is designed to extend the overall lifespan of a Mac's battery by reducing the rate of chemical aging.

The Battery Health Management feature analyzes the battery health of a laptop and its charging pattern, and in some cases, will preserve battery longevity and health by not charging a MacBook to its full capacity, which can reduce battery life.

When a Mac is used plugged in and the battery is largely kept full, Battery Health Management will kick in and will stop short of a full charge. The feature can be enabled and disabled in the Energy Saver section of the System Preferences app.

That's a good question. It doesn't happen all the time on my 16" MBP, but it bothers me. Hopefully Apple will find a solution..
I also hope that the new update will solve the iCloud bookmark sync issue, which affects some users (including myself) and was confirmed to me by Apple Support that there will be a future update that addresses that..

In past versions of MacOS, the Console application was very useful for checking on things such as Time Machine activity, unexpected system shutdowns and reboots. But starting in 10.12 Sierra, the "new" Console application has become practically useless for system administration and troubleshooting use:

Unfortunately, little has changed in MacOS Catalina version of Console. When the author of these articles wrote "I suspect that the previewers and reviewers never actually tried to do anything purposeful using Console 1.0" he must have been referring to puff pieces such as this one from Macworld:

Why would Macworld publish such an ignorant, uninformed article?

I’m still getting kernel panic crashes while sleeping on my MBP 16 with beta 3. This really needs to get fixed.

I also can’t wake up from sleep in clamshell mode without opening and pressing the power button. I have hibernate mode disabled. I also have standby mode disabled. It will wake up if it has been asleep for a short while but every morning it will not wale unless I press the power button which kind of defeats the point of clamshell mode.

Hoping this year's update will be a bug fix and stability update rather than adding loads of new features that will just introduce more bugs.

Steve Jobs would be turning in his grave if he knew the state of macOS right now.

Well, even with Steve Jobs we had buggy macOS releases. This has nothing to do with the current leadership, but is a bigger problem that has grown the last years inside Apple.
I hope actually that there will be no major release anymore. Why not just announce what is coming in the next two years and roll it out slowly, feature by feature? I think that this is a much better approach to OS development and would give Apple time to make its OS more stable. I don't want a new OS version each year. I don't need a new OS each year, actually I am happy with what we have now.

It's odd that some people are experiencing this. I've had 2x 16" with 10.15.3, 10.15.4, 10.15.5 b3 and now 10.15.5 b4 and experienced no panics or any odd behaviour.

Especially when a new release only contains minor feature tweaks (tabs or full screen mode) or bundled app updates like safari and mail which should really be deployable outside the main OS. Just go SaaS like Windows

But does it fix the crash-on-sleep for computers with T2 chips? And will there be a Mojave fix for those same computers?
I bought a new Macbook 16" and installed the update and encountered the problem. Worked with support and they told me to return the computer and get another one. I did that, but paused before updating on the second computer... research showed why my other computer crapped out on sleep. Worked with many support techs and they never provided what Google did in a few seconds. Getting tired of seeing "you have updates waiting.".

That is the most important question.
I'm glad I didn't buy a MBP in the end "just" a Mini. But this bug is really annoying.
This bug is a killer. My guess is they'll fix it in Catalina, (even if not this release), but leave Mojave to 'suffer'.

How old was your MacBook?

Audio popping is still prevalent on 10.15.4 on my 2019 15" mbp while using the tv app. They seriously need to get off their asses and start doing some bug fixes. Also my 2019 mba still has a static image glitch (which again I'm told is a software glitch) on screen wake after a long period of sleep.

Ever since the 10.15.4 the news app starts to crash a lot as well...weird.

your complaint is heavy on the invective and short on specifics. It is version 1.1, not the 1.0 referenced in the articles, and short of a filter, which is a user preference method to review and not a capability, I am not seeing what the complaint is actually about. I am sure you could also find a third party program more to your liking.

I'm finally stable across my eco-system (2017 iMac, 2012 MBPr, 2012 MM, Apple Watch Series 3, HomePod(2), HomeBridge Applications (not apples, but I have a lot of HomeKit connected devices via Homebridge), iPhoneX, iPad Pro 10.5 ... I struggled for 1 year getting all sorts of issues figured out / diagnosed ...

I've disabled auto-update on all my devices ... my next update will be on 10.16.XXXXXX when WWDC releases 10.17 beta

I do not trust apples software QA/QC anymore
